I'm on my last nerves with this issue, and i'm sick of being ignored in the FIRST STICKY THREAD in this forum!!!!
The mic/drum lag issue NEEDS TO BE FIXED ASAP! All this concentration on the Guitar functionality patch is POINTLESS AND UNNECESSARY!! The fact that WE PS3 users can't play the bass is NOTHING compared to the ACTUAL PROBLEM that makes ROCK BAND completely UNPLAYABLE ON ALL SYSTEMS!!!!!
ARE YOU READING THIS HMX?! Will starting a new thread get your attention!? I hope so! Even though it will most likely be locked because of "double posting" or because "there's a sticky on this issue already" IT DOESN'T MATTER! WE'RE BEING IGNORED IN THE STICKY! What is it gonna take for this company to respond to this problem!?
It's actually making me physically sick to repeat myself over and over again on this glaring problem! As I speak my guitar and drums are sitting in a warehouse at EA awaiting repair/replacement, so I am without a working game that I paid $170 for!!!!
PLEASE HMX! TELL US WHAT WE CAN DO TO HELP YOU HELP US FIX THIS PROBLEM!! We've already given you as much information as we possibly can to assist in fixing this problem, and yet we still get NOTHING in return for our own efforts to you!! Even though it's 100% YOUR responsibility as a COMPANY to create a 100% WORKING PRODUCT TO CUSTOMERS!!!

How much lonnger do we have to wait to be told that problem in unfixable.....OH WAIT! I GOT IT! When Rock Band 2 comes out. This is non-sense. Complete and utter non-sense. I still can't play a drum fill without it being way off. this blows.

Harmonix:
FIX THIS PROBLEM NOW!!!!!!!
And dont tell us to turn off Dolby digital, and while you are at it, fix the no subwoofer output problem.
It is the .1 part in 5.1 surround.
Thanks for your attention to these basic issues.

This does not seem like everyone is having this problem. I have a 64" Mitsubshi HD DLP, connected via the HD cables, sound is going through Fiber Optic line to Sony Receiver in 5.1 DD. I have never experienced any lag whats so ever. Have you tried setting all back to 0ms? We play on Hard and Expert, and have never experienced a problem playing there...

Even with the vocals, on a PS3?

It seems that there is a massive amount of us that have this problem, and there are those who don't. Trust me, we've tried EVERYTHING. The "solution" involves DOWNGRADING our current otherwise 100% working sound systems to OLD ANALOG CRAP! Which conceivably eliminates the problem, with ****TY sound quality as a result! Is that how you'd like to play RB?! This is becoming tiring and ridiculous!!!

Actually on a 360, but nope never had a single Lag issue, full band playing. Also, never had a problem with the .1 of a 5.1 playing either.

This may be a PS3 issue, not sure.
Have you confirmed your sub is producing sound?
I thought mine was, but all the bass is coming from the front speakers, not the subs.

I play on PS3. We have a 32 inch Westinghouse HDTV and we play thru like a Panasonic receiver (not quite sure on that part tho) and we don't seem to have any problems. Bass does come out of our sub, but it sucks for you guys that are having the problems.

I have not had to degrade anything on my system whatsoever. The system is True HiDef. From my TV which is only 5 months old to the new Sound System, that is only 2 months old. I understand your anger but as I said it does not appear that everyone is having this problem.
With only 120 posts on the sticky it would seem only a few are experiencing the problem. This is not like no Stereo sound for the Wii on GHIII. I am sorry that your having problems, but no need to take your fustrations on me, as it seems you were directing them in my direction. Not everyone has the same problem you have... Just putting out that mine is 100% PURE Digtal Lag free bliss....

i play on a ps3 as well, hdmi to westinghouse 47", optical to H/K avr340 with DD enabled... I've only played 3 player bands, vocal, lead and drums without any glaring issues... My sub does indeed make noise without the bass boost on.
on gh3 for ps3 i did have to turn off DD to make it playable, otherwise the whole thing just felt floaty...
On RB, I've played through all of hard guitar and easy drums, 3/4 of the way through medium drums if it wasn't for GGHT (or whatever the hell that song is)..
wife was doing vocals on medium/hard on BWT and wasn't having any issues with it.
edit: oh and for reference I picked the LCD option for calibrate system.

Is you panasonic Dolby digital, running optical audio, or Dolby pro-logic thru analog wires?
The problems lie with 5.1 digital sound systems.

I am writing this in a state of complete disgust at Harmonix, EA, and the Rock Band game. I bought Rock Band two days ago and not only did the guitar stop functioning on the first day, but the drums are now unresponsive as well. So what is one to do? I am furious I spend $165 on a game and silly me I expect for the equipment to work properly. I was aware of the guitar issues and was not too put out when it crapped out. The drums on the other hand sent me over the edge. I called the customer support and I had two options, pay and get it back quick or don't and play the waiting game. I think that if I am put out $165 for the game and items then another $250 for the guitar and drums while I wait that I should have some vendication in dealing with these people. Sadly there is nothing I or anyone can do, save return the game. I feel that they hold all the cards once the game is purchased. I would suggest to anyone to NOT BUY THIS GAME until much much much newer generations of "instruments" become available, or wait until Rock Band two comes out and laugh at the idiots such as myself who bought the game when it was first released. I just hope that Harmonix will learn from these monumental failures and remove their heads from places that hinder their thinking.

No issues on my end either on the 360. Works on both my standard CRT television in my room and the 48" Mitsubishi Rear Projection downstairs... both are using optical audio cables.

I'm responding to note that I have lurked these boards since the game came out but am not much of a participator when it comes to message boards in general. Most of the time other people bring up my issues....then other people respond...problems get solved, end of story.
I have waited patiently for a "fix" and now I am feeling bad that I haven't spoke up till now to add myself to the numbers. You have to wonder how many other people are out there just like me who are having these same issues, but just haven't participated in the discussion.
Without going into too much detail about my set up...I am on a PS3, have a 5.1 set up using HDMI for audio/video and I have the same lag issues. I have brought this game to 2 additional households with totally different tv's/receivers and we have had the SAME lag on both vocals and drum fills.
I don't even think explaining that set up matters when I can put in a PS2 Karaoke Revolution game into my PS3 and play the game with absolutely NO lag. How do you explain that? I have to believe the answer lies in the software.
But what do I know? I would just like a response to the issue like everyone else.

I'm having issues as well. Its a lot more common than you would think. I bet the majority of people with problems just read the forums looking for solutions but don't post. I myself have a 5.1 DD surround sound system with a Yamaha receiver and an old 50" rear projection TV.
I haven't experienced any lag issues with the mic but I've also only actually used it on about 3 songs on easy. My problem lies within the drums to where I've hit a wall on my solo tour because the songs on expert are nearly unplayable due to the inability to hit and rolls/fills. I played drums in real life and know when I'm on tempo and playing the correct notes but when i see every other note not registering, breaking any combos, and eventually failing me out, it really starts to aggravate me. I've tried ALL the different mods on other forums and still find nothing to fix the problem within reason. Even playing the "Run to the Hills" song on expert at 50% speed and my drums cant register all the notes. I want to replace the drums but feel that doing so will just net me another set thats just as inoperable as the last. Lets see a fix or just any sort of response from HMX. This is ruining the experience for the majority of RB players out there.

The 360 definitely has lag on the mic - there's a dozen threads about it. It's not very noticible on Easy/Medium but very clear on the spoken/rapped parts on hard. It's the way the game evaulates the mic input for scoring and has nothing to do with your TV.

I'm not directing anger toward you, i'm just angry in general on this subject! And observer that in my first response to you, I noted that:
"It seems that there is a massive amount of us that have this problem, and there are those who don't."
So I did mention that not everyone has this problem, but a vast majority do. Including those that I know personally that do not post on the forums, and others I work with who all bought the game. Most of them have this problem as well. It's not EVERYONE, but it's a pretty wide spread problem that NEEDS to be fixed!!!

Most people probably don't notice/don't care enough because either they don't care much for the singing portion, or don't play the game with vocals on the HARD/EXPERT settings. Though I am a singer, and I DO notice the lag, as well as many others who are now coming out to contribute their 2cents for this unresolved issue.
I realize there are also some of you who DO NOT have this problem. I ask you to not waste your time by trying to explain what the problem may be, as I, and many others, have been experiencing this issue since DAY 1, and we have tried it ALL.
And also, I'm trying to keep this thread as constructive and informative as possible, even though i'm angry and tired of this issue. But more people NEED TO KNOW that this issue is going unresolved, and sitting stagnant at the top of the thread with little to no daily postings involving the collective disgust on this issue...
And it IS important to bring this up CONSTANTLY, because unlike the GH3 Controller compatibility issue, this is an ACTUAL PROBLEM, and I would hope that even those that don't have this problem will contribute to the thread with constructive support...

I always start singing a half second ahead of time. Ya there's lag, but i'm being patient, it's not game ruining.

This is BS for PS3 owners. No bass game play with other PS2 or PS3 wireless guitars! Sony should raise some hell for making PS3 gaming experience like crap compare to all those Xbox360 with working GH2 and GH3 guitars.

Samsung 42" LCD with the PS3 hooked up HDMI to the TV
and the TV running Optical Out to the receiver 5.1.
Had a small bit of lag at first, but went through the calibration
setting and did some tweaking. No Lag, vocals sound good, everything in-synch.
