View Full Version : Rock Band Network - prospective songs list

Just to be sure, these songs will be free?
No, none of them will be free. Songs on RBN will have the option of being $1, $2, or $3. The person submitting the song (the band or the author) chooses the price.

Just to be sure, these songs will be free?
Nope, no songs will be free, nor should they necessarily be. These bands deserve to be paid for their music just like any other. If the price is too high, then people will let their wallets speak for them. Although I did think that songs were going to be priced as low as $.50 from what I thought I heard at PAX; sounds like from what Davidshek says that I'm wrong.

HELL YES. I actually already knew of Children of Nova, and they're one of those rare "smaller" bands that you'd suspect to be a chart topper.
The Complexity Of Light is DEFINITELY going to be a great song for Rock Band. I hope you guys decide to put up more CON tracks soon ;)

Interesting I would call them closer to the Crossover Prog. side with Coheed & Cambria and The Reasoning than the Heavy Prog side with Porcupine Tree and The Mars Volta still good though I'll be sure to both submit them to Progarchives and download this track when it is released :)

I assume they're licensing the version on last.fm, and not the acoustic version that's on their Myspace page....?

That is correct, we'll be doing the version from the album. Although the acoustic cut is great, the album version definitely lends itself more to an in-game track.

DAMN, Sick, you're a busy man. :)
GREAT artist lineup on your "label," and you're proving that RBN *isn't* going to be all about the unsigned/unknown --- you're picking up some major acts there.
And great news about getting CI aboard....if there's any way they can license older August Burns Red material, you're gonna have a *lot* of fans on these forums already...;)
(And psssst: under Circus Circus, it's "First We Feast, Then We FELONY," not "Famine" ;) )

D'oh! I knew that, I really did... mental slip o' the tongue. :) Will fix.
Thanks again for your support! We're looking forward to doing the best job we can with these artists and their music, and hope to continue bringing out a wide variety of great acts that have quality tunes. As far as CI goes, we definitely have our eye on more material from them, but these are the only ones we can announce as of right now.

You're gonna get a ton of downloads for all these guys, but Texas In July will probably wind up being huge. Great bands in your stable....can you tell I'm impressed? :)

I'm proud to announce I've finally received an unreleased copy of Counterfeit Pennies upcoming EP with the master recordings coming shortly.
These songs will definitely be fun to play. I challenge drummers to try to tackle some of these songs, and singers will also have a blast. Guitar and bass will also be tricky. Pretty much these songs will be a great addition to your Rock Band Library.
I announced the songs on the Ozone Radio Twitter (http://twitter.com/OzoneRadio/status/4488437005). The six songs coming to the RBN are:
"All of Our Dreams"
"Can't Stop the Light"
"It Was Ours All Along"
"Say What You Want"
"Five More Minutes"
"Soft-Served Sweetness"
I will be working with the band to get previews of these tracks up on their Myspace, as they've fastly improved since the material that's on there now. When the stuff's up, I'll make a band thread. I look forward to sharing these songs with you guys and I'm excited to play them myself as a Voxtarist. :)

It's a good track to play and listen to. I wasn't quite as impressed with Ox, but California Song is one of those that, if it was released as regular DLC, I'd be happy. When you see that sort of thing come out on the RBN, it's pretty cool.

I like her sound....very nouveau-blues, bordering on pop. Reminds me some of Colbie Caillait....

Doppler, Inc. - Grind
- genre - Rock / Metal / Progressive
- source - http://www.thegearpage.net/board/showpost.php?p=7070757&postcount=78
- website - http://www.dougdoppler.com
Doug is an amazing, amazing guitar player, and also works for WaveGroup Sound, which has contributed on many GH & RB songs. He is a former pupil of Joe Satriani (later asked to teach there after Joe decided not to anymore) and is signed to Steve Vai's Favored Nation label. This song comes from the 2002 album Nu Instrumental.
Also, an interesting note. Doug actually played on six Guitar Hero Encore Rocks the 80s tracks.
* Ballroom Blitz (Krokus) - guitar
* No One Like You (Scorpions) - guitar, bass
* Play with Me (Extreme) - guitar and bass
* Radar Love (White Lion) - guitar
* Seventeen (Winger) - guitar
* Wrathchild (Iron Maiden) - guitar

Jun actually took a couple weeks after our first discussion to give me the list of songs to sign off my approval on (and help him pick a couple). But with this having ties with the album that's dropping soon, I'm sure he's doing the best he can to get it to me as soon as possible.
And yes, I'm glad you noticed my annoyance with people jumping to conclusions its Sonic music. I never said they were, and I don't want get people getting hyped on rumors being portrayed as fact. I wish I could reveal what the songs actually are to stop all this, but I can't yet.

Bad news: It's been moved down to 3 Crush 40 songs.
Good news: This opens to possibility of the track that was removed appearing in a future second pack of songs should the sales be great on the first one.

The purpose of RBN is to give lesser known bands the opportunity to add their songs to Rock Band, bands that are more well known will continue to add their songs to the game via regular DLC. This is the perfect chance to check out some of those bands' songs to see if there is something out there that you will enjoy playing, I know I've already found a bunch of stuff that I'd love to play and hope comes to PS3. I'm sure you'll be able to find something you'd enjoy playing as well, all it takes is a little bit of listening to find whatever type of music it is that you think would be fun to play.
I dont think i have heard of any of these bands so not sure if the RBN will be any use for me.

As I always like to remind people, each song available on the RBN will have a demo version available for free download that consists of the first minute or third of the song, so you can check out a lot of great, new music at next to no risk to your wallet. So even if you haven't heard of awesome bands like Marillion, Amberian Dawn, or The Apples In Stereo yet, that won't be a problem. :)

You might want to clarify that statement...."a band we know" doesn't necessarily sound like authorization.
Make sure that "band you know" is actually *employing* you to chart their songs....you can't just start charting songs without a band's permission.

Sorry about that. What I mean to say is that we've spoken with them and actually gotten permission to chart their songs. My friend knows them personally and has met with them. We aren't even taking any of the cut if there is anything to be made. All proceeds will go to the artist, Arkady.

You still need to make sure you have a solid, legally-binding written agreement with the band that allows you to use their copyrighted material. In other words, a contract.

Well seeing as all that is happening right now is this being put on the "prospective" song list I think all should be well. But yes in the future I'm sure we'll have to sign/arrange some sort of contract. My friend took the song to them recently for the band themselves to actually play it and apparently they thought it was really cool. Should have a video up of that very soon.

Yes, once a song is up for playtest, we can talk about it.
It's a cover of David Bowie's "Fame" redone by Point Defiance featuring Snoop Dogg. The fact that it's a cover is a pretty hot debate in the playtest forums.

I'm with you here. If Snoop Dogg or any other big name gets an exception to this, RBN will be setting a terrible precedent. Either make it so that anyone with a legally-sound cover can put it on RBN, or have absolutely no covers at all.

You actually may want to message them and ask them to change that. The RBN store isn't even going to be open by Christmas, and that's not even counting the time it's going to take for the song to get through Peer Review. :)
