Please note, there's no guarantee that every song will make it through the review process. Also please, confirmed artists only. Sub Pop has confirmed working with RBN but has yet to confirm artists or songs...

Well that's a shame. It may be good to lock this thread up though, so it doesn't get overloaded or whatever happened to the last one. People that get confirmation of bands can send you a message instead of posting in here

Or maybe make a separate thread discussion about the song list in this thread

Hm. Do you think it was just a freak occurrence? If you think it might happen again, then I would fear that the original post (or more likely, the second post with songs) would get permanently deleted. That's why I suggested a separate discussion thread if losing the thread might be an issue again

I have been thinking of starting such a thread once music actually starts hitting RBN that can be downloaded...

What I am afraid of, however, is there will be so many songs released that it would just take too damn long to keep up with the additions.

But, yeah, what I think would be the best is to have a master thread listing all of the bands with songs in RBN. The band name would be a link to a seperate thread where discussion about the song and even charts could be posted about what was released.

What would be even cooler would be if people would rank those discussion threads, using the thread rating system, based on how well they like the band.

HMX said that they can only put out 10 songs a week as HMX DLC, but the RBN says, "Fresh Rock Served Daily" which I speculate means a lot more than ten songs a week...

I heard ten songs a day from somewhere.

Might have just been random internet chatter here on the boards.

trg007
08-13-2009, 02:08 PM
That 10 songs thing has been misinterpreted almost as much as that "5,000 songs by the end of the year" mishap a while back.

What they were saying in the Billboard article was that HMX has the capacity to release about 10 songs a week through the RB Music Store because they only have so many people to do charting/testing. Anyone who has been here a while knows we've had weeks with more than 10 DLC songs and weeks with only a few.

RBN is potentially limitless in the amount of songs that can come out per day/week, depending on how much it catches on with bands & artists, and how many people there are to chart songs. They never specified a limit on how many songs can be released through the RBN each day or week.

There is a possibility that the 3 Prime Addiction songs listed will not be the ones we submit. The boys are going back into the Lava Room to put something better together for this so we'll see what comes out of it.

They have about 10 or so tracks they could potentially put out, depending on how smoothly the studio time goes.

no, they screen the song through the mp3 demo thats sent in, usually from a mp3 they can tell how hard a song is going to be on each instrument.

That depends on the song itself. It's up to the artist on when we announce and if we announce the songs and/or number of songs. Or if we announce with a video of the songs already good to go (expect a few of those soon :P)

I just checked out 500 Miles To Memphis (http://www.myspace.com/500milestomemphis) because of this thread. I'm a big fan of both country and punk, so I wanted to see what they were about. Besides, they were compared to Lucero and the Drive-By Truckers, who happen to be two of my favorite bands.

Wow. I'm blown away.

The singer reminds me a mix between Mike Ness from Social Distortion and Billy Joe Armstrong from Green Day, and the band is a wonderful mix of rockabilly, punk, and country.

Check these guys out if you're into rockabilly and alt-country. I put their MySpace link above, which has a bunch of their songs. I know that "All My Friends Are Crazy" is the song that's rumored for RBN, but I cannot stop listening to "The Regret". As a drummer, this song would quickly shoot to the top of my favorites, particularly around the 3:45 mark.

More like this in the RBN, and I'll be a very, very happy customer.

=) Bluefusion's guitarist, bassist and songwriter here. Thanks for the kind comments, guys! And yes, I'm a VERY huge Buckethead fan. The drummer isn't, really, but that doesn't matter, as he's got his own set of awesome influences and such. One of the new undisclosed songs (whups) we're working on is incredibly Buckethead'ish. Perhaps I'll add it to the poll on the official Bluefusion site (www.bluefusion.neosouthisland.com) for which song we should send through Rhythm Authors next, if it's finished soon.

^^ Rockband Network has really brought a lot of excitement and attention towards our little basement project, I'm so honored.

EDIT: Fun Fact, "Fighting Spirit" is titled so after "Kamina" from the show "Tengen Toppa Gurren Lagann". The Lyrics being written for it are also callbacks to that show. Aren't we nerdy?

Wow, there's quite a few bands on here that impressed me. Even to the point of hoppin' on iTunes and grabbing a few songs. Like "Jayou521" said... you have to give it an unbiased chance. I'm not a HUGE fan of metal but some of the bands here are pretty awesome. The content so far is looking like it will be pretty diverse. Which is a good thing! But everyone is entitled to their opinion.

"Trg007" I completely agree with you. It somewhat disheartens me to see the posts of all the people trying/contacting more major-esque bands to jump on board when I feel a lot of the smaller bands could really benefit by getting into the door first. Over-saturation is a big fear of mine for this outlet. I know it's GOING to happen. I just hope it takes a while so it's not at the expense of the smaller bands that could really benefit from this.

So far, I love the route RBN is taking. It's already opened up the door to a lot of really good bands that I most likely would have never heard of before until now.

The list is pretty great so far (in my opinion) and I'm looking forward to more underground/indie/small label music to come forward!

We have a few old tracks up here: http://kurodust.net or here http://myspace.com/kurodust but the tracks that will go on RBN will be from our upcoming album Containment Failure, which we will be finishing up over the next few months.

Awesome. They opened up for Great Big Sea at the Molson Ampitheater last year in Toronto, and were really solid. That being said, The JPE (arguably) marks the first "big name band" on the list, which bodes well for the future.

we believe all of our bands signed to MGA for charting are all big names and if not true big names now they sure will be... ALL of them are extremely good bands with music that will be fun to play and will be well worth buying their CD(s). MGA realizes how blessed we are with the bands that have decided to go with us and will do everything to make sure their music and the band is handled properly... Now if We could just get into the beta so we can get started charting... kinda puttin a crimp in our bands and our company's plans here HMX...

For anyone interested in what Counterfeit Pennies' newer music will sound like (they've recently reformed this year, so the music out there now is a couple years old), I am currently writing up the paperwork with them and will be trying to get samples of their music available on their Myspace hopefully by sometime September.

I'll update you guys when they go live and when the titles for the 6 songs coming to the Rock Band Network are announced.

As soon as we get into the open beta Spock's Beard WatchTower Venture etc all of our initial bands will have priority as far as our authoring goes. Seems a shame that our competitiors have a lead on us and our bands have to wait an extra month... but be that as it may we will make sure all our bands songs are authored appropriately and you will all get a chnace to play them! till then keep listening and let the bands we are charting know how excited you are for them to be in the RBN and with Music Game Authors by giving them shout outs on their respective MySpace pages and on the MGA Forums (they each have their own threads there)

It's already been stated by the HMX devs that the songs in those screenshots of the RBN Store were all fake. Just filler, titles to fill up the list for that specific purpose of magazine pictures. They're not actually songs that have been charted.

But don't you see, it's not up to the people that run it. Getting songs into RBN is all up to the artist. If they wish to utilize the software to make their own note charts and then submit the songs to RBN (or hire a company like Rhythm Authors or MGA to do it for them), that's up to the artist.

The people that run RBN (Harmonix) have nothing to do with getting songs into RBN.

The artist does.

i believe it was in a game informer magazine with a sgt pepper-y beatles cover.
I saw that too~! It's in the most recent Game Informer mag~

I assume the "first few" SDRE albums means the first 3 albums. :)

Since I'm nice, I'll type it out for everyone to read...

Q: Have you guys been thinking about a strategy in terms of how many songs you're going to start pushing out and which artists?

A: We've had some very base, preliminary conversations about it. A lot of it is going be determined by how long it takes us to input the songs. There's certainly some catalogue songs, things like Mudhoney's "Touch Me I'm Sick" that we'd want to get in there right away.

There are things that are timely that we'd probably want to move to the front of the queue. We're releasing all the first Sunny Day Real Estate records, and those are big guitar, bass, and drum songs for the most part that are pretty epic and I think would be fun to play. Also, [we have] things like the Shins and then more current things like Blitzen Trapper or Fleet Foxes.

The other thing is, even though we probably have the right to proceed with everything contractually, we generally don't do anything without talking to our artists, so we just want to make sure everybody's into it. I can't imagine anybody wouldn't be.

Well the upside to MGA having to wait is that it gives me more time to acquire all the necessary master tracks/bands etc, so once this public beta starts up we will be ready to go. Plus the bands we are getting are definitely worth the wait ;)

Yeah I heard they were working on some project about some band from back in the day from Liverpool England... that and PAX, Cruises, drinking at the pourhouse... putting out killer DLC...

All I care about is getting into the Open beta ASAP so we can get to work!

David, whats your point? We know we arent getting into the closed beta and we dont care... MGA and our bands will wait paitiently till its wide open if we have to.

But we will be a part of this and we will just learn from all the mistakes being made by the beta testers and all the postitive things coming from the beta testers as well and take this time to get our company and our bands poised to provide top quality tracks and promote the hell out of our bands.

So posting anymore in this "prospective songs" list about beta this and beta that is silly and Ive asked my MGA crew to please stop it as well.

It is a genre you can pick for a song in Magma, so again, as far as RBN is concerned it is a genre.

I am well aware of the Album Oriented Rock based programming that radio stations use and pull from, and some of the history behind how it was created. However, that does not prevent current artists from mimicking the 'classic' style of earlier years. Something like this needs to be reflected in the RBN for those wishing to find this particular style. Thus, Classic Rock (in this situation) is a genre.

Without using the time period as a reference, explain to me how bands like Rush, Led Zeppelin, Jethro Tull, The Doors, Pink Floyd, Black Sabbath can all be considered to be the same genre.

It's not even just those. The "classic rock" stations around here also now play Metallica (usually Nothing Else Matters or anything else off the Black album) and Nirvana, among other 90's artists. I think I actually wept a little the first time I heard Nirvana on a classic rock radio station.

Great song, too....I'll probably snag it as well, but River of Tuoni's got a richer sound to me. Both are great adds to RBN, though.

Cool video, Alvarado. :)

New announcement from RockGamer Studios:

Amberian Dawn
"River Of Tuoni"
"He Sleeps In A Grove"
- symphonic metal
- RockGamer Studios (http://www.rockgamerstudios.com/2009/09/21/amberian-dawn-coming-to-rbn-from-rockgamer-studios/)
- http://www.amberiandawn.com / http://myspace.com/amberiandawn

If you're a fan of challenging symphonic / power metal ala Yngwie or Dragonforce, enjoy playing female fronted songs like those by Lacuna Coil or In This Moment, or are a fan of groups such as Nightwish or Epica, you won't want to miss these tracks!

Thanks for the heads-up, S1ck, awesome songs that I think would be pretty fun to play.

What about Sunny Day Real Estate? It was stated by Sub Pop that they are gonna release their stuff 1st in the Game Informer.

ah yes... added that. I just re-read the article. Due to the wording of the actual print article, it's difficult to tell what they are releasing by the band.

SDRE's first album will probably be my first purchase. There's no doubt I'm getting it, it just depend on if it gets released on Day 1.

The confirmation on the bands website makes me really happy.

For 2nd thought, please take out Get Up, and put unconfirmed number of other songs under Cherry Blossoms.

If I remember correctly, that article also specifically mentioned Mudhoney's album "Touch Me I'm Sick," Blitzen Trapper, and Fleet Foxes.

All of the other bands from the article were referred to as a strong possibility.

I've just gotten into SDRE, and the first album to boot, so I'm very happy to see that it will be getting an RBN release.

One of the guys from QA and I are going to be recording some songs that will hopefully be making their way to RBN. I'll update when it's more definite, or when I have more info.

Exciting!

bringing work partners together to make music can be a pretty enlightening experience...

when i worked at goodwill i got to be really great friends with a guy, and after a few years of hanging out i found out he recorded from time to time on a 4-track.
so one day after work at his place we decided to do jack daniels shots and record a bit... about 8 hours later, sometime around 5am, we had 6 really offensive punk/folk songs about all the people we hated at work, as well as queen and dr dre covers.
we then took showers, had some breakfast, and went to work.

My god....this is jaw-droppingly awesome.
SKINDRED?!?!?

Luh-HUV the new single.....any chance they'll release older stuff to you, like "Nobody?"

That old saw about "only unknowns will sign up for RBN" is flat out the window now....with heavy-hitters like Skindred joining, it's anybody's ball game.

Luh-HUV it!

Too early to tell at this point, but rest assured that if the new single sells well, you'll more than likely see even more from them down the road. :)

Lots of new announcements from us this week! This one I'm particularly excited about; these guys are my favorite new band.

Fake Shark-Real Zombie!
"Angel Lust"
"Horses In Heaven"
"Running For The Razors"
"Sestri Levante"
- indie rock / dance-punk / funk
- RockGamer Studios (http://www.rockgamerstudios.com/2009/09/25/dance-punk-hits-rbn-with-fake-shark-real-zombie/)

These guys sound like the wildest cross between Red Hot Chili Peppers, System Of A Down, Jane's Addiction, and The Mars Volta. You can listen to all four tracks in their entirety at last.fm (http://www.last.fm/music/Fake+Shark-Real+Zombie%21/Angel+Lust+EP), or check out the awesome slow-mo in-one-take vid they shot for the title track (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xL7tyBQqiUM).

No, it is still in closed beta. The store is not expected to go live until November.

I could honestly see the majority of Skindred's songs hitting at least Tier 5 on vocals. Benji has a hell of a voice. I'm just concerned that they might chart most of his vocals as talkies.
