View Full Version : Dedicated Left Handed Guitar?

I have red rumors about a dedicated left handed model of the guitar controller being made available. With an "un-offical" price tag of $200.00+ dollars for the bundle of Rock Band I think it's only fair that we are made aware of this development as soon as possible. I have no problem throwing down the money for this potentially amazing game, but IF a left handed version is going to happen I WANT IT.
With the addition of a second set of buttons located toward the body of the guitar my biggest fear is not enough cutaway to make it comfortable for lefties to use.

This is the first I've heard of it. I doubt they would make a dedicated lefty controller, especially considering the current design. If you look at a good quality photo of the guitar you can see there's a flat spot where it looks like you could move the guitar strap bit too. Also, the coloured fret bits are both on the top and the bottom of neck so you could look down and see the colour weather you are right or left handed.

Im right handed, but if I play someone that is new, or we fancy a challenge, we use the lefty flip option for a laugh, I have completed some expert songs on lefty flip so Im getting there.
I have to say though, I find the whammy bar unusable in lefty flip mode, don't know what naturally left handed ppl think of it?

GH 2's controller is rubbish for lefties. That's what we all think. And, as I pointed out in another tread, musicians are twice as likely to be left-handed as normal people(20% or more!). Enough so that every guitar and bass maker has left-handed models.
I'd love to have a dedicated lefty controller that the game auto-detected. No menus, no anything - just plus in and presto - works.
P.S. My bass? Ordering a new Carvin within a week or so. Going to be a one of a kind bass thanks to a couple of non-standard options. :D Yes, left handed.

Carvin is good news when it comes to Left Handed models. I believe there entire line (or almost) is available lefty. I own a left handed Jackson/Charvel, Esp, and a Martin.
Back to the topic: I doubt they will make a left handed version as well, BUT if they do I wanted an opporuntiy for Harmonix to make it public before too long. It's something the company prolly doesn't think about, but for the few lefties out there it's a huge deal.
The whammy bar is a pain in the ass, considering I play a Floyd Rose trem on my real guitar having the whammy bar on top of the strum is the worst.
I am more concerned about access to the "solo buttons" on the new controller. This new fender model is the first time we are seeing a strat style guitar controller. All strat style guitars have a cutaway on the body to allow for access to higher notes. If Harmonix places the new "solo buttons" too close to the cutaway lefties are not going to be able to access those buttons with ease...

I'm a lefty too, until now I haven't had a problem with any of the current guitar hero guitars that being the SG or X-plorer. I find a little difficulty in the whammy for the X-plorer but nothing extremely difficult. I have been searching the web for close ups of the new strat and I along with many other lefties am also worried about the solo button access. I even looked at photos of Hendrix playing his and he seems to handle himself on I'd have to say. The only thing is he has a strap peg in the leftie spot. That's all I'd need to be happy. I'd love to see a leftie model though, the five-way switch looks like it will be a pain for lefties and where the start button is also. Please let's see a leftie model, I'd even pay a little more if it meant I get my way! There are more lefties than they think.

I would love to hear something from HMX. This has been bothering me a ton.

This is exactly the point of this post. If there is NO plans for a lefty model, no problem I will pre order and be on my way. Just let us know either way, I don't think that's too much to ask.

I haven't actually heard anything about making a lefty specific guitar (though we will, of course, support flipping the guitar) any time in the immediate future. I did post your concerns to our internal threads, though.

Thanks! We definitely want to keep you all in the loop as much as possible about what is going on with the game and some of the decisions we make.

Iam also a lefty. The 360 guitar sucks. After 4 months of playing my wrist kills because i have to akwardly stretch 4 the whammy bar.....
If you guys dont want to spend the $$$ redesigning everyhting to be oppsite, atleast move the whammy bar!!!!
And the decision of Hermonix to use the exploer as the 360 guitar, they obviously did not consider lefties, and i doubt they will for rock band either....

I guess I'll throw my two cents in here. I'm a lefty but I've learned to conform to the right handed guitar. I know that GH and RB are never going to specifically sell a Left Handed guitar (after market is different), I mean if only 12% of the population is left handed, why would they cater to that? That's not a very high number of people buying the lefty guitars. They're looking for profit, there is none in a lefty guitar. I've learned to conform how to practically do most things right handed except writing.. world is not going to conform to my left-handedness, so I've just learned to conform to the world.

I think this is a great idea, but I don't know if it will happen. I know it is very awkward playing left handed on GH, I have tried ;) The thing is, not a lot of lefty guitars would sell in stores, a lot of people would have to find them online and order them. which may end up costing Harmonix some $$.

I must say...while not a lefty myself...I have a room mate who plays lefty...and I can say that yes...it would be great for leftys to have that option...I think if RB made a controller for leftys, even if they were only available to buy online or only limited amounts were made...I tihnk they would sell very well and be widely used.
JUST LOOKIN OUT FOR YOU LEFT FOLK...haha

Okay, well, I play real guitar. And I'm left handed. I do EVERYTHING left handed, eat, write...everything else you do with your hands. I am not ambidextrous, but I play guitar right handed. It was just always easier. I find it much easier to press the frets with my left hand, and pluck the strings with my right. Ever since I started playing when I was about 5, I was always told it was just easier to start me off playing guitar right handed, and that's how I learned. So, unless you actually play guitar lefty style, you'll just get used to using it the right way if you play for a while.

Hell yeah the Xbox 360 guitar really makes it difficult to use the whammy bar which was the only problem I had beside the usb cord. I don't mind playing the thing upside down, much like the one and only Jimi Hendrix did. I suggest a guitar with an unscrewable whammy bar and two different screw in points one left and right handed players. The port not being used can be covered with a removable cover so it wont ruin the look of the guitar. The cord will no longer be an issue with the new wireless guitar. It is a real shame that Microsoft did not allow the wireless guitar first up in GH II.

That's your problem right there. You're only supposed to believe blue and green rumors, not the red ones.

the worst part about the 360 guitar isn't even the whammy bar (which i can barely use) but the sound-switch that literally stabs me in the wrist when i play.
i'd rather not be a rock martyr.
