There's nothing like forking over money to show that You Heart Companion Cube...

Go ahead and make a note here of the huge success at last night’s Fünde Razor event to benefit Penny Arcade’s Child’s Play Charity, with the grand prize of a life-sized plush weighted companion cube going for a whopping $350 at auction.

Certainly a triumph and absolutely a big success, Child’s Play Charity event Fünde Razor went down last night in both of its two-city tour locations, the Walnut Room in Denver, Colorado, and Barcade in Brooklyn, New York. Rock Band was played, friends were made, and most importantly, prizes were raffled off for charity. While all this was according to plan, one raffle prize, the fabulous grand prize of a life-sized plush weighted companion cube, made quite a stir.

At least in Brooklyn, the raffling of prizes was a happily chaotic affair. Joel Johnson of Boing Boing Gadgets managed the crowd, alternating the screaming of ticket numbers from atop a pool table with the tossing of LEGO door prizes to pacify the crowd. The masses rippled with eagerness until finally, lifting the cube above his head to the roar of the crowd rhythmically chanting “cube,” Johnson called out the number for the oh-so-lucky raffle winner of the life-sized cube grand prize.

In an incredible display of irony, the lucky recipient, who wished only to be known as Andrew, actually did not know what all the fuss was over the squishy companion prize. Clearly a coveted item to some but not to Andrew, he offered up the cube for charity again, this time in a no-holds barred auction. The results? In under a minute’s time the cube sold with a winning bid of $350 with half the money raised going to Andrew and half back to Child’s Play.

That'd be a riot if Apples was some how the winning bidder. :P

I'm buying the Orange Box for the PS3 this weekend. I have to understand all these Portal jokes that keep floating around about Companion Cubes and cake.

This is the second plush companion cube I've seen. The first was smaller and more accurate (from what I can see anyway, haven't played Portal).
