Today, I was driving home from the bank and I heard an ad on the radio about my bank. The ad was "Person 1: Hey I bet my IQ is higher than your IQ! Person 2: So what does that have to do with anything? Person 1: Well with Americu IQ bank account you can get various interest rates depending on your IQ. Person 2: What's that the new Metallica Rock Band video game or something? Person 1: No, silly it's the great new offer from Americu!" then blah blah contact Americu blah blah.

Anyway, I found it humorous and it gave me a good giggle.

Is "Rock Band" replacing "Guitar Hero" as the better known brand? Hmmm....

So let me get this straight:

1) They're doing an IQ based offer, and
2) They don't have the IQ to properly identify Guitar Hero: Metallica?

That is lol worthy.

However, this is a REALLY dumb offer as rewarding people on something that is out of their control is not fair at all

Precisely what I've been saying since they revealed that Rock Band would be in that title.

The Beatles: Rock Band has undboubtedly begun implanting itself into the conciousness of people who normally wouldn't have thought of it.

It's sort of like how "Xbox" has replaced "Playstation" as the generic game given to videogames now in the general public.

It's fair for smart people. Besides, stupid people don't know their being ripped off anyway. :)

Obviously you don't have anything to worry about, nor do I, but I take a very social justice stance against things that are not intrisically fair across the board.

Everyone should have equal opportunity to reap benefits, and to create a system that excludes people and them not having an equal chance to gain access to it is plain wrong.

Wait, that is off topic bad... sorry, i will shut up.

We're talking IQ, not something that can be easily changed. Someone who is slow due to nature is being punished for that as compared to someone who is super-quick.

Being lazy or hard-working is a concious decision, your IQ level isn't.

Oh, and this isn't off-topic, as it's the point of the commercial

lol.

Obviously, however, like I said earlier, when it comes to things like this I firmly believe that it should be dealt with in such a way that everyone has the ability to reap the benefits of it, should they wish to.

Call it my Canadian Commie way I suppose (I'm not a Communist supporter, as I really don't believe in that load of baloney, but I am a strong supporter of Social Justice and Equality, and somewhat of an idealist)

I see what your saying and I get peeved over social injustice too. But a philosophical element comes into play here as well. The government can’t really force people to be nice to one another. We as individuals do that through our own actions. (In this case one would refuse to use the bank until the discount was for everybody.)

Look at desegregation. While the government made it illegal to discriminate based on race or religion, the intolerance still existed. Ideally, individual people should stop using businesses that discriminated, eventually the problem would be gone.

Of course this is all just philosophical musings. In reality people don’t want to change sometimes unless forced. That creates resentment and causes the problems to become buried, but still persistent. It’s one of the reasons we still have racial tensions today.

*Sigh*

You are quite right, and it's all so unfortunate. Like I said, I'm quite idealistic, so I'm also a little unrealistic :P

to the people who don't play the games, the names are generally interchangeable to them

Wow, I was just about to say this. In 2004, if you said Xbox, some people gave you weird looks. Not anymore.

It helps that more and more celebrities have been identifying Rock Band by its name.
