i don't have rock band yet, getting it for christmas, but im just curious about the guitar. on the bottom of the neck there are 5 extra buttons, that are used for the solos. for the bottoms frets, do u need to strum on the bottom ones or no im just curious.

You can use the higher frets during a solo without strumming (or with strumming, if you want), and during the rest of the song they work just like the normal frets.

On lead guitar, when the note board turns blue that means that it's a solo. I don't think that bass has solo parts in a song, at least not from what I have noticed. I could just be missing it since a bass player with a 5x/6x multiplier always has a trippy blue note board.

You don't need to strum with the solo buttons during a solo. Also during the big rock ending but you do have to strum for the notes right after the big rock ending if I'm not mistaken.

Honestly, I've barely used the effects switch at all. It's kind of gimmicky if you ask me.

I could be wrong, but I believe the effects switch only kicks in during overdrive. It's a neat feature, but it's not that big of a deal. I leave mine on echo.
