This thing's been under wraps for 9 months now, and we are both really excited to have it public, AND really excited for the support and sponsorships we've lined up so far!
So, what exactly IS the Rock-A-Thon? Well, long story short, it is a big, bad Rock Band marathon. Every song from every console installment (That's RB, RB2, Beatles:RB, and... maybe more?) of Rock Band (RB:U is also an option, though it's undecided as of yet). Starting on the 27th of November (that's Black Friday, if you're wondering), we're renting out a hall at Meridian (http://www.meridianhouston.com) in Houston, TX for what'll probably be no less than 4 days of Rock Band-ing. Front to back, top to bottom, uhh.... Weezer to Mayhem Pack, we'll leave no song unbeaten.
What separates us from previously-staged Rock Band marathons? Taking the liberty of stealing a few choice sentiments from our website, the Rock-A-Thon is "a celebration of charity". We've intended this to be a charity event - and a big one - since its very inception. To that end, we've done some real work making it as big as we can. We're talking to more and more people every day, and we've already got the likes of Harmonix, RockPedal.com, and HostGator sponsoring the event! We've even got a few neat surprises up our sleeves yet!
So what's this mean for the community at large? Well first off - hey, if this sounds like a neat idea, let people know! In addition to being able to come out and see us at the Meridian, we expect to be streaming and offering as many other forms of updates and info as possible. This is gonna be a big performance, and you're invited to come any way you can! The more people we get excited about this, the more people are likely to learn about Child's Play (http://www.childsplaycharity.org/), the awesome charity set up by the founders of Penny Arcade to help bring smiles and fun to Children's Hospitals.
If you can, donate and help us up the ante of this event even more! Currently every donation of at least $30 will garner a Rock-A-Thon 2009 t-shirt (jump over to the website to check out a potential design on that), and further donation thanks will most certainly be forthcoming - maybe even the ability to set parameters for the way we have to play songs, or when we have to play them!
Thanks again for reading all of this - it really means a lot to us, and we hope you think it's cool, too!
