I actually just wiki'd the SingStar article about 2 minutes ago. :)

Those games are developed by London Studios and distributed by Sony. Since London Studios is owned by SCE, the game is effectively developed in-house (hence why they only appear on the PS2/3).

If this is true, this could be massive for HMX. Absolutely massive. Sure, it's not for us, but if this game does get released, it could sell squillions.

Good Lord, they're stupid for announcing this now. They're supposed to launch Beatles Rock Band, then announce Singstar Beatles a week or two later to sop up the people on the fence before the holiday. This will just cannibalize the base and get a lot of people to spend money on what I'm guessing be a much lesser game, killing your buzz and the "specialness" of your product.

It's like if you spent all this time and money building a new restaurant with Wolfgang Puck as your chef, got amazing writeups for service, ambience and innovative theme... Then said that the food would also be available at Wendy's.

I would assume so. I mean, one of the primary joys of singing The Beatles' songs are the harmonies.

The primary thing that has me doubting this story is that it apparently seems like Sony sat quietly by at E3 while MS stole all the Beatles limelight without announcing this, plus the fact that they are announcing a game to be released "within days" of TB:RB 3 weeks out from TB:RB's release day.

No else has picked up the story as of yet, so maybe one journo at Gamescom had a few too many pints last night and got a bit inventive. I'm sure the next few hours will reveal the truth of the matter.

Kotaku are citing MCV as their source. It's not confirmation, but if it is some gigantic rumour, it means there will be more egg on more internet journalist faces.

If more sources start reporting this independent of MCV's say-so ("MCV reports..." etc.), I'll be more certain about it.

Years of reading the gaming "news" has made me cynical about believing anything but the most nailed-down facts. And this looked pretty dodgy from the get go.

Too often in their rush to get web hits they are ready to exaggerate, embellish, or flat-out make up stuff. (Anyone remember the "Xbox Pure" incident on Kotaku and the corresponding fallout with Cheapassgamer.com?)

Well now that it's basically confirmed that this was just a rumor. I don't understand why everybody's panties were bunched up, IF this "alleged" game was a reality, you have to understand it would've been ONLY in Europe, NOT in the U.S.A. didn't anybody read the fact that Singstar released an ABBA disc (released in the U.S.A. a few months ago), and they have released a Singstar: TAKE THAT disc already (in Europe ONLY), yet, here in the good ol' U.S. of A., I havent heard in the news of anybody camping out overnight at their local Best Buy in order to be fist in line to receive those magical tickets to be first in line to buy SINGSTAR: TAKE THAT.

However, that doesn't mean there isn't something similar planned without the Singstar brand name.....
