Yeah, the easyness of going online blew me away. Literally, just a couple seconds worth of a couple button presses. AND they have multiplayer online, on a demo? Didn't get to do it yet (the multiplayer) but man, really impressive demo. Looks gorgeous. They did a great job directing the crash sequences, lots of great camera angles and camera effects to make it feel like you're watching a real wreck and something directed from a movie, really nice. Still getting the stunt stuff down, seems like it might take some time to perfect it; i.e. to be able to do a barrel roll on demand. Overall very impressed with the demo.

Yeah, it was pretty cool. I was impressed. Looks like a mashup of Motor City Online and Fast and the Furious. Should make any burnout fans pretty happy.

Anyone know if it will have local multiplayer, since that was my favorite game mode from the older games?

I was somewhat dissapointed. Doesn't feel like Burnout anymore. It's still decent I guess, worth a rental at least.

Everything seems a bit more....complex, i guess. They added a lot from the last Burnout I played (and loved!), Burnout 3: Takedown. And what happened to directing your crash in slow-mo? Did I miss how to do it? Is it not in the demo? Or did they take it out completely?

But all in all it does look beautiful! I have been looking forward to this game for some months now. Definetly going to pick it up.

I've spent about an hour with the demo so far, and was alternating between thrilled and bored. I'm not sure how I feel about races in a free-roaming environment, but I think I'll enjoy it more once I have a better feel of the layout. The graphics are incredible, but I'm having the same problem I had with Revenge, that they're a bit too detailed for the speed... makes it hard to see things sometimes. It gets to a point when things are so ridiculously fast, that simplified graphics help (Wipeout's a great example, though maybe I'm just starting to get too old :)). The racing & crash physics are pretty much perfect.

I'm glad they got rid of traffic checking, as that sucked all the enjoyment out of Revenge for me. And I'm glad crash mode is gone, as that was taken as far as it could go. The new "crash" mode looks stupid as hell, but it could also be really goofy fun. The biggest fault I can see is not being able to restart races, but I can understand that if they're streaming from the disc and want to avoid loading screens. It's not a big deal to me with so much to do.

I can't tell if I'll like the game, but it's a definite buy. I've been a huge fan of Burnout since the beginning, and even if I ultimately don't like it I'm glad they're doing something really different. I'd hate to see the series turning into a yearly rehash.

A few other points:

- Having to go through EA's servers for online play is asinine. I can't even read the damn EULA on my 30" HDTV.

- The announcer needs to not be there. Or at least be the lone pedestrian in the city that you can run over. :p

- I'd really like day, dusk and nighttime environments, but it's not gonna happen.

- Now that Criterion is part of EA, they really need to start working on an update to Road Rash!

Yeah. It's not in the demo. "Showtime Mode" is supposedly activated by hitting L2+R2 or L+R triggers. I'm not sure if you can direct your crash in Showtime, however. Also, supposedly in the full version, there will be options like traffic checking on/off. I know I've checked traffic a couple of times in the Burnout Paradise demo. You just can't hit large vehicles, nor hit vehicles directly. They also don't go whizzing along the road like they did in Revenge... lol.

...And I love DJ Atomika!

I love it. It feels to me like they've taken all the good things from Burnout 3 and Revenge (Better graphics, takedowns, checking, etc.) and mixed them with the elements from the first two games (crashing if you ram traffic too hard, more realism) and threw it all into an open-ended world. Oh yeah, and the crashes are crazy, especially when you ram a car into a wall at 200 mph for the first time, just seeing the entire front end crumple in slow motion.

I'm not a fan of racing games at all. But I enjoyed the demo. At least this isn't a half assed port for the PS3 that is usually associated with EA.

I'll probably give it just a rent. But in my book thats about the highest honor for a racing game.
