View Full Version : I Will Pay For The Patch

Listen, it seems like Activision wants to get paid. Pay them, then pass that cost on to the consumer. It's not ideal, but I would totally pay for this patch. $5 on PSN and I'd be golden. That would solve all of the problems. Anybody else willing to pay for it?

Hell to the no I don't want to pay for it. You figure $100 for GH3 bundle and $160 for Rock Band bundle also throw in the $30-$40 on DLC I think the customers have given enough cash for these bundles why add more. Also I don't ever recall a company charging for a patch for thier games. However I think that cash for a patch is the path we are headed down.

Yes-- just RELEASE THE DAMN PATCH ALREADY!!!
Of course if HMX wouldn't be so friggin' cheap and had just paid we wouldn't be in this situation in the first place. Then they lie to us and say that Activision was blocking the patch when in fact what they wanted was to be paid for the usage of their controllers.

If it comes down to it would you pay for the patch?

They would have to pry that cash from my cold dead fingers. I want the patch as much as anyone, but I'm not giving one freaking dime to Activision as it relates to this patch. Harmonix did the work, Activision wants more cha-ching, on top of the spike in GH3 sales that would obviously happen from current RB owners looking for an extra guitar.
Not a dime... and you have my support on that one HMX...

It doesn't really concern me (360 user here), but theres still no way that I would pay for a patch for ANY game that would fix something that should have already been done at launch.

If you pay for the patch, does that mean you feel Activision has the right to charge you more money to use the guitar controller you already paid money for? If so, why?
Discuss.

Why do you support them? They have been lying to us all along. If they had merely paid what they were asked to pay we wouldn't be in this situation in the first place. I guess $170 for a video game isn't enough for HMX/EA to pay Activison what's it asking for in order to keep RB's customers happy.

They didn't lie, they just didn't tell the whole truth. Welcome to business. This should let everybody realize that Harmonix is a business like any other.

Yeah great...lets THEN charge for each and every patch...GREAT idea! Then a game that costs, $50-$60 can over the life of a game, say a year...then 4-6 patches...DAMN, man, that’s like another $20-$60 for doing basically what they are SUPPOSE to be doing in the first place!
Awesome idea...the game companies can then put out games that are partially ready and make additionally money from the release of patches. Awesome!
Wait, then 3rd parties can come along and hold up said patches until they get a little bit of it...then you will say..."we'll pay more, just release it!"
WOW...you're a game companies wet dream!

If you can't see that Activision is pricing things out of the market intentionally, then I have nothing I can add. Activision doesn't want you to use the GH3 guitar with this game - pure and simple. This just gives them an out to say, we tried to work it out, when in reality they don't want it working out. They can keep their toy guitar and one dimensional game and I'll live without a bassist until spring time - no biggie here. But I personally am not going to support this type of PR, anti-consumer BS...

OK, first off, how many games do you know of that have been patched more than 2-3 times? Secondly, yes, I would pay a nominal fee for the ability to use my Les Paul with Rock Band. Mind you, this isn't a routine patch, this is a cross-company compatibility issue. Charging for patches to improve/fix playability of a game would be silly, but this IS something of an add-on. Even if 360 owners got it for free (GRR). But if it comes down to paying for this mod, I would maintain my boycott of Activision. Never buying anything from them. Ever again. The only way that changes is if they allow the patch to go through free of charge.

Does Activision realize that their guitar controller technically works in every other PS3 game? Do all those companies owe Activision money too? Wow, they will be rich!
Sorry. The best I can offer Activision, as a sign of good faith, is to buy 1 or both of their GH3 song packs. I'm not paying money directly for a patch however.
Until that patch is released though, Activision, I've got nothing for you... EVER.

This is all a bunch of senseless crap. If it was a royalty fee that HMX declined to pay, good for them. I'm not going to hold my breath on this anymore. This patch is not the end all, be all for Rock Band. If Activision can't see the benefits of the patch for them now, I can wait till Feb for the release of individual Strats. Activision will surely have missed out on a golden opportunity to boost sales.
Oh, and No, I will not pay for a patch.

If it is $5 bucks as an Ad-on module then I agree. If it is anything more than that then I would say NO

All I can think of is -
GH3 with wireless Les Paul - $100
RB with StratoCaster and Drums - $170
paying Activision so you can actually use your guitar - priceless.
Maybe in GH4 Activsion can just put a credit card slot in it so you have to swipe in order to play. $1 gets you an hour on the new guitar! Oh yeah, and that guitar won't be compatible with GH3 or Rock Band.. Maybe the subtitle for GH4 can be "the search for more money..."

I personally think that there is two sides to every story in this situation. Activision is a business that has been in this industry for a while. Everyone that is posting comments here about how "Activision is stupid for not releasing the patch because they are cheating themselves out of money", you guys probably don't know the whole story. I don't think that it's that simple where Activision releases the patch, and they get more money. If that was it then I'm pretty sure that they would've released the patch already, because they arn't that stupid. There has got to be another issue why Activision isn't releasing the patch. So just be patient and wait untill February for the individual RB guitars. Leave Activision alone.

If it came down to having to pay 5-10 bucks for a compatibility patch i would pay. Think of all the hours of fun you will have from the patch, and money saved from having to buy another stratocaster. Also 5-10 bucks is the same for a lunch or dinner. Which you will only enjoy for about 20 mins.

The only people who will save money by paying for the patch is the people who already have a gh controller, like you said. What about people who don't? They will be paying for the controller, AND the extra money for the patch.

So do it on a case by case basis. If you want the patch buy it-- if not then don't. Easy enough solution.

I won't pay it because I don't like the precedent it sets. I don't want to be in a position a year from now where I buy a DDR-type pad or a steering wheel for my PS3 and suddenly discover I have to shell out an additional five bucks every time I want to use it with a different game.

Oh dear gawd...shall i count them on more than two hands, let me kick off my shoes too?
Every game I've played(albeit mostly on computer) have MULTIPLE patches...but I digress, if you start paying for ANYTHING...open the floodgates. Your ass will be paying from here on out.
"Oh, you want to play the game with GH2 controllers...heres the patch. GH3 controllers, heres a patch for you. You want to use this type of drumstick..." And so on.
Someone a few years ago said to a company, "You know, if you'd just build a game and charge me for it...I'd pay you every month to KEEP playing it for EVER!" And they did!
But seriously, don't offer to pay more for something you SHOULD be getting for free...PS3 owners are getting ripped by a system that has been notorious for it.
Stand firm and wait until you hear from HMX.

No prob. I've been honing that argument for about 15 hours now on various forums, and I finally found a way to make it concise.
My own solution to this will be to head to GameSpot with the game I don't want to play and the controller that only works with that game and see what they'll give me toward something I actually want.

I think that if it came down to paying for this patch or having to buy a new controller when the Strat is released in Feb, I would probably just pay for this stupid patch. Not because I really want to but because I really don't want to have to spend another sixty dollars just so one of my friends that sucks at the game can play the bass. Second, I really don't want my living room to be littered with guitars. I already have a GH2 controller for the PS2 and the Les Paul and the Strat. Third, let's face it the Strat really isn't the best controller in the first place so why would I want another one. My sister refuses to play the game because she hates the strat but said that she would never stop playing if she could just use the Les Paul. Please for the sake of rock, please Activision and Harmonix, release this patch. I just want to be able to have the full rock band experience and I am sick and tired of being punished just because I chose to go with the PS3. Maybe Harmonix should call up Sony and see if they will pony up half the cash for Activision to release this patch. The people at Sony should realize that Activision is screwing their customers.

Absolutely! And this is exactly why HMX shouldn't pay a dime to be "allowed" to use the Les Paul in Rock Band. If HMX pays then other companies that start coming out with peripherals may start doing as Activision has. Do you want to have 3 steering wheel controllers, a few mics, a couple dance pads, 3 guitars, etc. etc.

I would not pay for this patch if I owned a PS3 simply because it's sets up a bad precedent and completely undermines any sort of open controller compatibility platform that should really be in place for controllers for similar genres of games, especially if they have nearly identical interfaces.
Edit: Well, yeah, I guess I just agree with what someone else has said haha.

It shouldn't have to be that way...quite ridiculous actually, but yes, I would pay $5 so A**ivision can shut up and allow the patch. Oh wait!, I meant Activision...no-no, I was right the first time.

I hope it doesn't come to this. I'd rather not be forced to make this decision at all. I know I really wouldn't want to pay for it, and I hate how it could set the tone for other games in the future, but if they did release it like this, it would be so hard to not just drop that $5 and get this whole thing over with.
When it comes down to it, I honestly think I'd rather not have the choice, I'd rather Harmonix just not release the patch at all.

I would be interested to see if any IPs match with Activision, RO, or Neversoft on the boards, though...
