View Full Version : TB:RB cannibalizes other RB revenue?

I wonder if many people have held off buying other RB stuff in anticipation of TB:RB, and whether after its launch TB:RB will continue to siphon off sales from other RB titles.
Thoughts?

It might impact DLC a bit. I don't think it'll make a big difference in terms of retail SKUs, since there hasn't been a major Rock Band disc release in a long time, so those sales are probably rather stagnant already. If anything, I would imagine that the Beatles game will boost sales of RB1 and RB2 discs slightly, and have a bigger boost for the RB instruments, as new people get into the game.

Either way, as long as they get the money, Harmonix won't care. They'll just be laughing as they roll in their giant money-filled room, Scrooge McDuck style.

Yeah, I mean the same company makes both so I can't imagine they care. Money is money. All I know is Rock Band 3 will need to have a GREAT set list for me to consider it, because this game is really all I'm going to need/want for a very long time. I played that demo today, and I was just so, so happy. Haven't had that feeling with many video games ever.

No, that's what they did last week. I meant this week. Get with the times, man.

I just bought Piece of My Heart and Take The Money and Run today! 2 DLC a week is pretty average for me. I'm saving money for TB:RB, but not from other RB DLC, which I largely consider an investment in a future game anyway.
But I think you got yer priorities wrong. This is the new game for Rock Band. If it DOESN'T cannibalize some Rock Band revenue, it will be terrible for Harmonix and all future endeavors. If, on the other hand, it is wildly successful, then maybe bands like U2 want to be on the cooler platform that values music over technique.

This is spot on, in my opinion. TB:RB is going to be HUGE for the remainder of 2009. Think: Xmas Gifts for Fathers everywhere!
anywho, i think that other bands will WANT the "RB" treatment after seeing how well TB:RB will do.

Or they'll be too busy playing Beatles Rock Band because even Harmonix cannot resist playing the game no matter how many times they have already played it.
Then they'll roll around in the money, while we continue to play TB:RB endlessly.

Not worried in the least, they already have Lego RB announced for the end of the year, and it's got unique features too. Plus, who knows what else they've got in the wings for RB3.
