$17 for Abbey Road? Really?

I'll tell you what: At that price, "The End" better not be the final song. You can't convince me that "Her Majesty" and "Mean Mr. Mustard" are worth $2 as individual songs.

When I posted a day or 2 ago that maybe they'll do DLC's as full albums, I was still betting against it. Wonder what they'll do for venues with the dreamscapes, same ones or more generic (like 100% studio) or what. Looks like monthly albums.

Ummm whats with the duplicate songs from the game? You DO have to have the game to play the DLC in the first place so what's the point in buying those songs again??

When they release an album for Rock Band 1/2 they only release the songs that are not already available... it seems they are releasing all the songs??? I am confused.

OK, so these are on disc:
Abbey Road (1969)
Come Together
Something
Octopus's Garden
I Want You (She's So Heavy)
Here Comes the Sun

Means these are DLC
• “Maxwell’s Silver Hammer”
• “Oh! Darling”
• “Because”
• “You Never Give Me Your Money”
• “Sun King”
• “Mean Mr. Mustard”
• “Polythene Pam”
• “She Came In Through The Bathroom Window”
• “Golden Slumbers”
• “Carry That Weight”
• “The End”
• “Her Majesty”

12 DLC songs... norm is $2 per song... Total $24 without album discount...

I guess they listed all songs just to make it clear your getting it all.

If you want to just buy the songs that are not already in the game individually, you can, for $5 more than just buying the album. ;-)

They're charging the normal price for 30 second - 1 minute songs. It's still more expensive than "normal" Rock Band DLC. On the other hand, if they are sticking to $2/song Sgt Peppers and Rubber Soul should be in line with other DLC.

Jmax
08-19-2009, 03:39 PM
I really don't mind the pricing, only because I'm going to buy full albums all around probably, but yeah it seems a bit odd to charge the norm for a 30 second song.

"In addition, purchasers of the full album download....."

So does that mean that if you only buy the medley, you can't play it through? (ie, if you do not purchase Oh! Darling and Maxwell's Silver Hammer)

And I would guess that all the songs are listed because A) they just want it to look uniform and have an entire album listed rather than only songs not on the disc, or B) perhaps you ARE buying the songs again and the dreamscape/studio/whatever video is different? Hmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm.....

FatWilma
08-19-2009, 03:46 PM
awesome news. a month to go thru the whole game before the albums become a monthly thing. i agree with Captendo, perfect timing.

interesting points there. my guess is they're just assuming anyone who would want the medley wouldn't pay for the 1 min individual songs and just buy the whole thing, but if for some reason u didn't want Oh Darling or Maxwell, it would probably still work if u had all the parts.

and i would guess A is the reason for listing all the songs, but i HOPE it's B. a consistant dreamscape or venue for the whole album would be quite awesome.

I think it's great. If anyone would have commanded a higher price, it would have been the Beatles, especially with all the extra work needed for masters reprocessing/fixing.

The fact Rock Band had 50 million downloads or whatever already was probably a good piece of momentum in keeping that $2 price point.

elitemastersam
08-19-2009, 03:59 PM
I couldn't imagine downloading the songs from Abbey Road separately instead of purchasing the entire album. And what a great album it is.

I wonder how much the other two albums are going to cost...

As of right now, I plan on buying both Abbey Road and Rubber Soul in their entirety. As for Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band, I'll just have to wait and see how they chart some of the songs lacking main instruments.

^^^ very nice but i think instead of getting magical mystery tour "first" we should go with Revolver or the white album. definitely want Help! and A hard day's night.

Well, I just felt Magical Mystery Tour would be great for March. Play on the M's. :D

Personally, I hope they release it like this:

Jan. - Help!
Feb. - A Hard Day's Night
Mar. - Magical Mystery Tour
Apr. - The Beatles (White Album)
May - Revolver
Jun. - With The Beatles
Jul. - Beatles For Sale
Aug. - Please Please Me
Sep. - Let It Be

Than a Yellow Submarine pack with "Only A Northern Song", "All Together Now" and "It's All Too Much".

Also, a single or two that comes from the same time as an album.

Since this first batch is 2/3 later Beatles, the next batch should have more earlier work.

Someone that matters needs to step in and clarify how the overlap with DLC and tracks already on the disc (allegedly) will work.
I don't really matter, but I will try to explain:

HMX listed the entire album, but really should have marked the songs that are already on disc because you will not be buying those again.

When they release an album for Rock Band 1/2 they only release the songs that are not already available... The disc songs are already coded as being part of a particular album.

OK, so these are on disc:

Come Together
Something
Octopus's Garden
I Want You (She's So Heavy)
Here Comes the Sun

Means these are DLC
• “Maxwell’s Silver Hammer”
• “Oh! Darling”
• “Because”
• “You Never Give Me Your Money”
• “Sun King”
• “Mean Mr. Mustard”
• “Polythene Pam”
• “She Came In Through The Bathroom Window”
• “Golden Slumbers”
• “Carry That Weight”
• “The End”
• “Her Majesty”

Normal price is $2 per song, which would make singles worth about $24 (12 songs * $2) but HMX, for the 360 and PS3 because the stores allow it, give a discount based on the songs being released. So, with the discount you will be getting the balance of the album for much less.

That is how it works with Rock Band 1 and Rock Band 2 so I am sure it will be the same for The Beatles.

I doubt it, and the reason I doubt it is the cost. If it was $3/track or more, I would think they were doing something extra with the duplicate songs -- such as a seamless dreamscape. To deliver the songs that cheaply suggests to me it's only the non-disc songs.

I'm just saying, The Beatles are the most covered band in history, and they themselves did a small handful of covers. So when you just said you covers, most people think: covers from other bands of songs originally by The Beatles. I got you though now.

I doubt that any are original dreamscapes if they're dreamscapes at all, too much company expense to keep the price at $2. If it's just Abbey Road Studios for the dreamscape period songs (I Want You would be screaming to be taken off the roof), they could have a seamless album experience for a $2 priced effort. But then there's Rubber Soul to confuse my points.

Its all good...I feel SURE we are both very much into the Beatles, so its easy to let passion flow for good or bad. If I was guilty of that, I'm sorry.

And it doesn't help! that I am very much in the minority as a fan cause I much prefer the early stuff and their covers to the later studio only songs. I know I am off in that way but I do hope there are enough of us that we don't have to wait a full year to see ANYthing from the early years.

We need the White Album, Hard Day's Night, etc... also, but what I really want is Let It Be for download. There are some great songs (and popular ones too) that we should get to play:

Even though many of Let It Be's songs are in the game, it's the same story for Abbey Road and Sgt. Pepper.

Can't wait to start downloading Abbey Road. Hate to have to wait until Oct. 20 though! That's going to be a long wait. I have my older brother (also a huge Beatles fan) coming for a visit to play the game, and I was taking the game to visit my parents with my daughter for some family rocking out. I was hoping we'd get to play some Abbey Road during those visits, but they'll just have to wait.

$17 for Abbey Road? Really?

I'll tell you what: At that price, "The End" better not be the final song. You can't convince me that "Her Majesty" and "Mean Mr. Mustard" are worth $2 as individual songs.

I'll be surprised if they even give Her Majesty a price at all, or even release it. I mean, it's 23 SECONDS LONG. But.......
If it's free, what the hell.

I'm very excited to hear that we will have SDHC support, but it just really sucks that Wii owners will have to pay for individual songs. I was so excited to see the DLC price of the album, only to be disappointed with the news that I'll be forking out $2 a pop. It's worth it b/c it's the Beatles, but just not fair. I'm writing Sir Paul a letter.

Edit: Ok, I'm over it now. Will we at least be able to still play the medley as a single track? C'mon baby!

It seems to me that the medley will be one large download plus each section of it will also be a seperate download for that section... that is what it seems to be. So, if 360 or PS3 owners buy the entire album, not each individual song, the download will include the single file that includes the medley.

I have to assume Wii owners will have to download the medley seperate from the other songs.

That seems to be the case based on the info in http://www.rockband.com/forums/showthread.php?t=162989

It looks like the Medley is broken out:
You Never Give Me Your Money
Sun King/Mean Mr. Mustard
Polythene Pam/Bathroom Window
Golden Slumbers/Carry That Weight
The End (on disc)

I'm reading the info to mean you can't split the joined songs (i.e. you can't play just Polythene Pam), and there's no word if you can group together for a "partial" medley (e.g., Golden Slumbers/Carry That Weight/The End)

I know i am going to ask the most stupid question ever posted in these forum, but i've never owned a video game and I'm a bit useless with them. I just bought TB:RB because of pure and absolute love, admiration and devotion for The Beatles and I'm using my brother's PS3.

I just read that "All you need is love" is only available for 360º, does that mean that PS3 users will never have access to that song? and are the new albums will also be available for PS3??

I am quite concerned cause it's the only investment in video games i've ever made :S

Seems like it would be pretty easy for them to port the RBB songs to RB2 at some point (with lead vox), but it would make sense that they'd only do that after sales for RBB had tapered off. No point in doing it before that from a marketing standpoint.

Yes - AYKIL will hit the Wii Store the same time - give or take a day or 2 - that it comes to PS3.

The 360 exclusivity was a "timed exclusive" that involved proceeds going to charity. Once that expires, reportedly in early December 09, all 3 systems will have it available.

There won't be a damn thing said until EA decides to pay up for Harmonix http://kotaku.com/5468188/electronic-arts-scaling-back-third-party-distribution-plans

With their new RBN coming out they can demand a lot more and they know it. Also, I used to frequent these boards quite a bit and since popping in occasionally to check for updates all I'm finding is a lot of people asking when the new DLC is coming out and sadly sycophantic types giving them hell for even asking.

MistressD
02-22-2010, 02:06 PM
I don't think there's any harm in asking, as long as you can accept the fact that until Harmonix comes out with a definitive answer, you're not going to hear what you want. I understand people being nervous, hell, I am too, but nothing can be confirmed or denied until these issues are resolved. I'm sure HMX is listening to all our concerns and will give us the correct information when it's time.

And by the way Sayburr, don't forget to update your list, "All You Need is Love" is available on the Wii and will be available for the PS3 next Thursday. Hey, it may not be new to you Xbox guys, but it is something. I say we don't give up for more dlc yet.
