I was 'on the fence' on getting GH3 if this patch had gone through to get a bass guitar for my kit but had always thought in the back of my mind that I would rather have another Strat than the LP. (Personal preference) Now that Activision made that decision, well, not a decision, I'm wondering what makes sense. I think I'd like to get another drum set down the road as well for duals with the wife as we both migrate to that instrument anyway. If I do that, it seems I'm going to be out ~$140.00 if Amazon's preorder pricing is indeed accurate.

Guitar: $59.99
Drums: $79.99

If that's the case, does it make sense to just buy another bundle at $170.00? I could keep the extra mic as backup or sell it and the game later (game unopened) on e-bay or something. Would Gamestop take the game unopen in trade at the used game price? Might be worth trying when the standalone stuff goes on sale. What's everybody else thinking?

If you want both a second drum and second guitar, it's definitely worth it to get the bundle. EBay or craigslist would probably be a better place to get your money's worth for the game, I'd think.

The bundle always makes more sense, that is where the "deal" is.

The "bundle" should have come with 2 guitars for a higher price, at least for the Ps3 that is.

I have 2 bundles, but will still buy another Strat, as a spare when they are available.

Of course I am afflicted with Rockbanditis.

Another option, because of recent info about compatibility, would be to get the PS2 bundle. You can pretty much get it for $150 and end up with a copy to play on the older system, if you like.

Oh yeah, I totally forgot about that. I was thinking the exact same thing, AND the game will sell a lot better, since the GH2 guitars are compatible (from a couple first-hand testimonies I've heard on here). I'm actually thinking of doing that to get a spare guitar only, since a smart PS2 buyer won't mind if the guitars gone if they already have 2.

The Special Edition package is definitely a good deal. I was pretty surprised when the price was announced. I mean Guitar Hero 3 is what, $100? With Rock Band you get a better game+guitar AND a mic, and drums (which would seem to be the most costly to manufacture, ship, and shelve).

I'm considering buying a second bundle. If anything I could go halves with a friend and give the extra drums, mic, and game to him. He wouldn't get the guitar, but would be saving money, especially if for solo play he's mostly interested in the drums (like me). I'd get a guitar before the singles hit stores and someone to play with online.

Great tip on the PS2 bundle - hadn't thought about that possibility yet. So has anyone at Harmonix officially confirmed that the peripherals for the PS3 & PS2 versions are identical?

Whoa I'm sorry if this question seems dumb. But if i buy a ps2 bundle i can plug the guitar into my ps3 and use it to play the ps3 version of the game? Did you use USB as the connection instead of the standard ps2 controller port?
