View Full Version : Concern about Abbey Road DLC and Gamestop Promotion

So, I've been thinking about this really hard, and I'm a little concerned. The Gamescon announcement regarding TB:RB DLC said that purchasers of the "full album" would have the option to play the entire 16 minutes medley. This led me to believe that those who buy individual songs will not be able to, even those who buy ALL the songs (thus the full album) one at a time instead of all at once.

This leads me to part two... I know we don't know exactly how the Gamestop promotion for 3 free DLC tracks is going to work, but there is some speculation... so...

IF the 3 songs are predetermined and there is no MSP or options like with the Pepsi promotion

and IF those 3 songs are predetermined to be songs from the Abbey Road DLC

THEN utilizing the code would save us money on 3 songs but then prevent us from playing the whole 16 minute medley as we would not pay for the full album pack unless we wanted to pay for the free songs again (making them not free)

so IF this is the way everything works, those who preordered at Gamestop AND wish to play the 16 minute medley uninterrupted... the preorder bonus is useless for us... possibly.

I'd hate to think HMX would punish those who preordered their game long before all announcements were made....

Thoughts?

That's a good point, I'd hate to see it go to waste. Maybe you can buy singles with the 3 free promotion, I know it says Future Album Releases, but you never know. Maybe you can only play the medley if you buy all parts to it, individually or the whole pack.

I'm pretty sure the songs are from albums that haven't been announced yet.

Goodness, I hope not. I preordered from Gamestop and I want to play the whole 16 min. medley. I'm still wondering which songs those 3 free ones are going to be...

I suppose if only 1 song was from Abbey Road, you could get 2 free songs and buy the 1st free one over again. But my intuition tells me that the promotion will be set up to please people as quickly as possible... thus make all songs from Abbey Road...

Maybe someone should ask? I think I might at least send them an email just to see if I can get anything out of it...

It seems pretty simple to me. If you buy the songs individually, you may not be able to play the entire medley as one (obviously the file or trigger that allows you to do that would be in the album d/l, but if you d/l them individually, it won't know if you have them all or not). So if the medley is important, you buy it as an album and save your three songs free d/l code for later DLC. Whether it is Sgt Pepper or Rubber Soul or a pack of singles. I would guess that there will be a pack (or packs) of singles coming as well. So if you are buying entire albums, just save your free code for one of the DLC singles releases that come along at some point. Nobody is going to be "screwed" unless you're doing it to yourself. ;)

It also makes the most sense that you'll be able to pick three songs to d/l. Not that there are three specific songs that you have to get free.

My assumption is the Medley is available if all the tracks from the Abby Road album are on your hard drive, and you can put it together piece by piece any way you'd like.

Not that you have to buy the album at once.

Like how you'd get a Challenge in RB2 from DLC, in a way.

I wouldn't be surprised if you can't choose the songs. A lot of these promotions (RB2's 20 free songs comes to mind) have preselected songs that you must get, no exceptions.

I would be very surprised if they did choose the songs for you, and if they were from Abbey Road.

There are going to be 12 downloadable tracks from Abbey Road, so if they gave you 3 with the GS promo, you'd have to buy the other 9 individually if you wanted the full album. However, that would cost you $18, $1 more than buying the whole album.
Of course, you could just then buy the whole thing, and save the $1, but that would make the 3 free tracks pointless!

You could burn one of the 3 to get All You Need Is Love.

Or to save yourself from possibly splitting up the medley, you could use the three free songs to get yourself Oh Darling, Maxwell, and Because. Then just buy the remaining medley.

Oh, I just realized that the 3 songs will most likely not be from Abbey Road, here's why: Abbey Road isn't coming out as DLC until October. I would doubt that they'd give us DLC from that far down the road.
