But I keep hearing that I can't transfer my Rock Band 2 data over to it. I was wondering if anyone knew any way for me to be able to do that? I tried a search but couldn't find anything. Any help would be appreciated.

In your XMB there's a thing that let's you back up all HD data to an external HD. This will get your saves and DLC transfered, however it only works going to the same machine. (DLC will go into up to 5 PS3's but saves only to the same unit.)

Yeah like Lawdog said, just do a system backup (then restore) and it'll all be sweet. I did it when i upgraded to a 250GB last year.

Ok sweet. Thanks dude, I will be transfering it over to the same machine so there's no problem there.

Actually yes I do. I buy all the DLC. Plus with TB:RB coming out that's going to need space to be saved and any other game I buy. Like I believe Ghostbusters took up 3GB of space by itself.

Actually, as long as he deactivates his PSN and any others on his HDD before the transfer, the new ps3 HDD won't count as one of the five active systems.

The new HDD wont count as one anyway, since it's the same machine, just with a new HDD, the PS knows that.

Yes, you can put any laptop HDD in your ps3. You don't have to buy an official overpriced sony one.

Kind of a pain to go through that process, but at least it's doable, right?

Sony doesn't sell official HDD's, or at least none that I'm aware of.

Any 2.5" SATA hard drive with a 9.5mm form factor will work. IDE drives do not work, and the occasional 12.5mm hard drive will probably not fit (sadly, this means that WD's new 1TB 2.5" drive is out).

How much does a portable HDD run? I need to back up my saves for when I change my HDD out for the 320 gb.

I'm considering getting the 320GB hard drive, but I also heard that they don't last long and eventually burn out.

Yea, I want to make sure I don't run out of space anytime soon. I would have gotten a bigger one but Best Buy didn't have one.

Sorry for the double post. I'm reading a step by step on how to change the hard drive. It says my External HDD needs to be FAT32 but mine is NTFS, is there a way I can change it? And will that mess up any of the files I have saved on it?

I'm pretty sure i used an NTFS drive to backup my PS3. Give it a try, it can't hurt.

Well, I've had mine for a year and a half now without incident... granted, that's still nothing in the grand scheme of things with hard drives, but still...

OK I'll give it a try. I'll let you know what happens
EDIT: Nope didn't work. Kept asking me to hook up a storage device.
