View Full Version : Why is there a slot for batteries on the back of the guitar?

On the back of the Rockband stratocaster guitar, there is a slot that if you take out the screw you could put batteries in. I don't understand why you can, sense it has a cord. Can anyone shed some light on this for me.

My only guess is that they used the same mold for the back of guitar in both the 360 and PS3 version. I was quite surprised to see it there as well.

Is the PS3 one wireless then?

Indeed it is.

The PS3 version guitar also has the hole that the cord for the 360 controller is installed into.

Yeah, there are similarities between PS3/360 versions for ease of production. The battery compartment is vestigial, and shouldn't effect your guitar in any way.

I see. Makes sense I guess. But what I don't get, is if your going to make them from the same mold, why not make the 360 version wireless too?

It is the same reason why the GH3 did not come with a wireless controller, I am guessing that they are having troubles in getting it to work correctly for the 360, that is why they went with the wire method, so they would not delay it and can bring out wireless when they get it figured out.
It makes since why they have the same mold for both 360 and PS3, it would cost less to use 1 mold instead of 2 different molds, and when they get wireless to work with the 360 they would not have to change molds in order to make the guitars

GH3 most certainly does have a wireless controller for the 360. I have it, lots of people have it...

As someone else said, GH3 has wireless for the 360. For RB, it's not an issue of figuring out how to get wireless to work, but most likely a cost issue. Microsoft charges a crapload of money, apparently, to use their wireless format, and would've made the 360 guitars cost more to make/sell, meaning either the 360 bundle would cost more than the PS3 one, or they'd keep the prices even, and PS3 people would get ripped off.

The reason for there not being wireless, as I've herd around, is that MS charges to use it's wireless technology.

Vestigial? You really want people to use the dictionary today! (Yes *I* know what it means!)
RE: Tabesis - What Tabs meant was when GH3 first came out getting a wireless controller was pretty much not an option. The inital release had far more wired guitars than wireless. He used the phrase "did not come" (Past tense) and not "does not come" (Present tense).
No, I'm not a grammar whore, but I do read.

See this doesn't make much sense to me unless you're referring to different platforms of the game. I picked up GH3 on launch day for my 360 and got a wireless guitar.

I picked up GH3 for the Wii, but I think all three console versions were at 90 bucks, and all three had the wireless guitars. The only major difference between them would probably be that I need to put my Wii remote into this guitar for it to work...
So if MS charges for its wireless, why did Neversoft and co. release their game at the same price all around with no troubles?

They didn't. The 360 version of GH3 with the wireless LP is $10 more ($100) than the PS3/Wii versions ($90). I'm assuming that's because of the MS wireless costs.
I would have gladly paid $10 more for my RB bundle to get a wireless Strat :)

I believe the retail price for the xbox 360 and PS3 are both $99. The Wii version and PS2 retail for $10 less.

My bad, that was a typo. I meant to say the PS2/Wii versions were $90.

what kills me is that the cord they do give on the wired controllers is no where near long enough. Everyone complained about GH2's Xplorer controller on the 360 wasn't wireless. So we get GH3 controller that is wireless and everyone was happy to have a wireless controller even if it meant paying the extra bucks. Why isn't there a wireless version of the Rock Band Guitar? That's just not listening to your customer base in my opinion. I'd love to have wireless controllers and wouldn't mind being forced to pay extra to have them.
