It's probably not confirmed for sure yet, but I know Harmonix wanted to try to make it work. I'm not sure how the relationship between the Rock Band and GHIII teams are.

Yea, well I can only hope.

Harmonix is offering full support to third party controllers, so it will probably work, with RO's blessing or not.

It will work.... The buttons on the guitar controllers simply replace A, B....etc. That's why you can play GH2 with a xbox 360 controller. Each fret color is mapped by a normal button..

Yay, thats good news.

What I want to know is what the solo buttons will do.

In interviews, developers state that with the smaller solo buttons, you are able to just press them and no additional strumming will be required to activate the notes. So knowing this makes one assume: When using the normal sized buttons, you have to hold them down and then strum to activate them. Whereas hitting the solo buttons makes it to where you don't have to strum as well to activate the notes. Going back to another GH2 controller example...When you play with the controller, when hitting a green note all you do is press A when a green note comes down, and you don't flick the analog sticks or anything extra.

I heard somewhere...i think on g4 they said Rock Band will work with "3rd party controllers" and that they were going to make the rock band controller work for GH3...since the people making it work closely with Hermonix

Harmonix said that Rock Band will support all guitars, even 3rd party ones. Activision/RO isn't a fan of people using guitars that aren't their own, if any of you remember the GH2 incident. GH3 supporting the Strat is basically up to Activision, they're the ones that need to program support for it into the game.

And then there's this little piece of text at the bottom of every GH site:
ACTIVISION EXPRESSLY PROHIBITS THE USE OF THE GAME WITH ANY CONTROLLERS OTHER THAN ACTIVISION AUTHORIZED CONTROLLERS OR THE STANDARD GAME CONTROLLERS.

I'm hoping GH3 supports the Strat, but I'm not holding my breath.

It is really in Activision's best interest to allow support for a new controller, I'd think. Even if it was merely a PR move, which they desperately need. They've shown their ugly side pretty heavily the past couple of months with the big debacle over DLC for GHII. I know quite a few people, myself included, are unhappy with them.

Harmonix has shown they appreciate their fans time and time again, (for instance, the large donation given to Scorehero.com to help upgrade the server) and it is going to pay off big this generation. With or without GH3 support for the Strat.

I too believe it will work simply because of the button mapping, A = Green, etc. The only way that something like that wouldn't work is if GH III was coded differently. For example, they could make it so X = Green on the GH III guitar, and the game requires you to press X to go through the menus. X != Green on the Rock Band guitar, and therefore those of us with the Strat would have to find which buttons correspond :(

The ball is in Activision's court.

Just like the "guitar mania" controllers that were released for GH1. They did not like GH2, which sucked for me because as I just posted in another thread, Australia never got guitar peripherals released as standalone things to buy, only the bundle.
