there isn't any other thread like this because you're only supposed to put in only ONE album that you would want more than anything else..

..not posts filled with 30 albums.(I pretty much made this thread so i can see what albums really kickass over everything else)

There is only one choice here - "Quadrophenia" by The Who

Oh, they're refered to as "classics" not because they're old but because they're good. They have something in them that modern music lacks. Actually, everything about them is better than what passes for "music" anymore. We need a classic rock revival.

I doubt 50 years down the line people will be refering to My Chemical Romance as "classic". If they do, I want to be shot.

Escape - Journey

Yeah, you'd have to put up with the guitarist not playing for two whole minutes in Don't Stop Believin', but the other songs would be worth it.

And despite its lack of guitar, DSB is pretty much the ultimate sing-along song.

Okay, that was really, really stupid, and if you listen to anything and think it's great just "because its old," you're dumber than I would think. I, for one, most certainly do not listen to the classics because they were years before my time. I listen to it because the music is much better than the crap most bands vomit up these days. There was so much more to older, classic rock than there is to today's rock music.

Wow, now I feel dumb. :D

I have no clue for what album I would like.

Wellp , ask your neighbor to shoot you then.

Its the cold and unforgiving harsh truth..........

You honestly think 100 year old music will be popular in 2057?

I mean Elvis is a classic , beehtoven is an uber classic ... but do they get as much attention as led zeppelin does? No...............

I'm saying in 50 years led zeppelin will be like elvis and MCR and **** like them will be like led zeppelin , and well... wtf ever way you look at it its the sad truth

"Classic rock" Is nothing more than rock n roll hit songs that managed to get in the billboard top 100 years and years ago , by that logic... things like mcr will unfortunatley one day be considered classic , like it or not... its stupid yeah? but its realistic........

I see what you're trying to say... but the thing is... in the 60's, 70's, and 80's... were most people fans of 50's rock? nope. thats cause the rock during that period rocked so god damn hard!
They didn't NEED to go back to 50's rock and listen to that, cause they already had the ****ing awesome power of thier previously modern rock...
there are some bands out nowadays, that are pretty good, such as Tool, Buckethead, Dragonforse, and stuff like that... but definitely not MCR...
and even so, nothing beats music from the 60's-80's.
there was just something about it... there was a lot more emotion in how they played... nowadays, it's mostly just crap...

oh, and my #1 album would have to be: Rush's "2112"
it'd be amazing...

Why do you keep saying MCR is going to be like the Led Zeppelin of today in 50 years? MCR sucks ass now, in 50 years MCR isn't going to be remembered, or if they are, as a crappy ass crap band that was in Guitar Hero 2(people are gonna remember Guitar Hero). Certain bands are 'timeless' Led Zeppelin being one. I don't think kids these days like Led Zeppelin so they can say "Hey looka me, Im cool cause I listen to Led Zeppelin instead of the new junk, like MCR"

Its true... to be honest, one of the last timeless bands like that was Nirvana. Like em or not, they had the IMPACT that Led Zep / Hendrix / Beatles etc. had on the industry. MCR is just another band that millions of preteens like. They're not a revolution by any means and they're nothing special. Simply put, we haven't had our generations Led Zeppelin yet and with the way the industry is going it could be a while til we get a band of that magnitude.

Not to mention these are groups who DOMINATED the industry and billboard charts in their time. MCR does not dominate. They have their newest forgettable single at #1 for a week and then it drops out of sight til the next one. When they are DOMINATING the charts, lemme know.

Whats classic music mean to you, that is the question... and taste in music has a lot to do with it.

There are alot of good bands out nowadays.. doesnt mean everyone has to like em.. in the 70's there were two camps.. the ppl that listened to KISS and the ppl that listened to the Bee Gees. they are both classic in my opinion. And yes, in 50 years MCR wil be classic...

I hate the beatles.but does that make them not classic... do i listen to any elvis presely no, but he is classic. Its too early to til, but 50 years down the road.. alot of singles wil be dug up and enjoyed like we do with singles from the 70's and 80's now.

Remember at one time, Classical music, actually meant classical as in Beethoven, Mozart and other piano players... Now classics are from 60s, 70s and 80s. Music changes, taste in music changes, and 50-100 years down the road alot of present music wil be classics wether you like it or not.

I had written up this great, well written response to Tmanrocks but the server ate it, I got pissed off and really don't feel like writing it again (It took me over an hour to write. Argh!)

Tman, suffice to say classics are not considered "classics" just because they're old. There has to be something in them that makes them timeless, not routed in one time period. It's the same as movies. A classic movie has a message that can be transported through time. If there is nothing there, then the movie and music will die quickly (quickly being a relative term in the flow of time).

Many of the classic songs have a message to them that has lasted through the years and come to be relevant to many people.

On top of this. I really believe that music has a spiritual side and chord progressions, tone and style are very important in music to attain this spiritual side. Music that leans towards this spiritual side has much more of an effect on people who realize the spiritual implications of such music. Music can prove to be path to spiritual enlightenment, if you let it be. I came to this realization after attending a "The Who" concert in 2002 in Toronto, Ontario when the song "Sparks" from the album "Tommy" was played during the encore. It was during this song that I had a very profound spiritual revelation.

I firmly believe that if Pete Townshend (the main songwriter of The Who) had not had continual complications over the many years that followed he would have been able to fully realize the spiritual nature of his music. He had started work towards that end with the production of Lifehouse (which turned into Who's Next) but had a breakdown and wasn't able to fully recapture what he initially had until recently (The recent release of "Endless Wire" by The Who illustrates what music can do if it is somewhat attuned to spirituality).

Modern music completely ignores timeless messages and the spiritual side of music (I'm not talking about Christian Rock either, which I do not believe fully grasps the spiritual side of music and instead only uses the lyrics to try to pass the message of Christianity using a format that was initially condemned by the Church). Instead, the modern trend is to "sexify" the lyrics (and artists) and make everything louder and more distorted. Proper, full chord progressions are being replaced by the ability to speed things up. Some people believe that an artist who can play speedily is incredibly talented. I don't believe this to be true at all, instead playing incredibly quick destroys the impact chords (and other notes, I'm not limiting this to guitarists) and limits their ability to have an impact on the listener. A skilled player knows how fast to play to get the maximum impact out of each note/chord. This is not the proper path to take if we are to realize the full nature of music as an art form.

This is not to say that I dislike all artists and songs that don't have a spiritual message or the like (after all Judas Priest are one of my favorite bands and their music isn't exactly spiritually enlightening (but the chord progressions and tones, etc. all are proper and thus the music does speak on some level)), but the current trend in the music industry is completely destroying the potential of what music could be.

This is the reason I firmly believe that artists such as My Chemical Romance will NEVER be considered classic by and large (They may be considered classic by some niche groups, but every artist in history is considered classic by a niche group).

Please, nobody take this post as being preaching to you, as I believe that everyone has to have their own revelations in this field. I'm not trying to convert anybody here, just expressing my beliefs in the power and potential of music.

And Tman, we can both argue until we're blue in the face but we won't be able to convince each other because of our firmly entrenched positions. I just wished you to know where I am coming from in this regard.

What do you know? I said I wouldn't write a long post, and I went and did it. Go figure.

P.S. This was not the original post the server ate, but I think this one better expresses my feelings on the matter

I remember back a while when pre-teens were filling stadiums for boy-bands like N-SYNC..... Pre-teens can get get greatly excited over something. Sometimes the response is massed in unity for a group, as with N-SYNC. But, nevertheless, that big response is just a faded memory now. Iit doesn't mean a thing now, in the world of music. N-SYNC music and records ARE NOT being discussed or purchased in any meaningful way now (Why would they be ???)

On the other hand, when I was a pre-teen, years before N-SYNC came around, I was very excited about a new band on the scene.... as were many, many others.... It was 1964, and the band was -- The Beatles. And so sometimes, when you're a pre-teen and you're all wraped up in hysteria (maina) for a group.... it will have rewarding benefits for a LIFETIME....and not just a "season" ot two.. :)

To put this in perspective, Led Zeppelin, with 8 albums, sold well over 300 million records. My Chemical Romance has sold, what? MAYBE 10 million with 3 albums? At this pace, with their 8th album (if they even make it that far), they'll have sold roughly 25 million records. Which is impressive for any recording artist. But to put into even further perspective, with 8 studio albums, a cover album and a live album, Metallica has sold over 100 million records.

Now, I know that album sales doesn't make the band. But what makes a band classic? That people, in gigantic masses love the band. 10 million albums sold with 3 albums is a pretty nice achivement, but I sincerely doubt people will revere MCR like Led Zep. I mean, Zeppelin has been selling about twelve times as many records on average as MCR.

So yeah. Oh, and that's actually a liberal estimate, btw, it's probably less than 10 million.

ANYWHO, onto the topic. If I could have absolutely any album I wanted, I'd take Houses of the Holy by Led Zeppelin. If I wanted to be realistic, I'd take OK Computer by Radiohead or Master of Puppets by Metallica.

You can't compare album sales of say Led Zeppelin to a modern artist. It's flawed comparison for two reasons: firstly, album sales only ever increase and Zeppelin have been around for nearly 40 years, giving them a massive head-start; secondly, in Zeppelin's day people bought music, now however, just as many (read more) people steal music or buy it on iTunes than on physical media, and that form of listener is not included in RIAA record sale statistics. But I digress. My most wanted album would have to be... American Idiot by Green Day. However Smashing Pumpkins' Siamese Dream, Blink 182's Untitled album and Muse's Black Holes & Revelations are all way up there as well.

Disturbed- Indestructible
The Devil Wears Prada- Plagues
Black Tide- Light from Above
Submersed- In Due Time
and
System of a Down- Toxicity

Holy crap the mere mention of Submersed shocks me, I didn't believe anyone else has heard them :) Usually the stuff I mention nobody knows, Such as The Trews, the Odds, or Living Syndication. Seriously, I would LOVE to have Hollow in Rock Band
