To everyone who enjoys ripping on diffrent genres of music, please Shut the **** up.

Sure the 60's and 70's are cool and all but its not BETTER music because its from the era, nor is music from today better than the older stuff. There is no such thing as BETTER music everyone enjoys diffrent music leave them alone. Trying to compare Rush to 311 is as impossible as compareing blue to green, people have thier favorites for thier own reasons. If you cant listen to diffrent genres of music for one reason or another thats fine, but dont go throwing your opinions around like theyre better than anyone elses, because really theyre not.


And YES some music does take more talent to play, but theres alot more that goes into musical creation. Lyrical and intrumental writeing, inspiration, and expression. So actually THINK about listening to some music before you critize it behind your computer screen thanks.


And if this post doesnt apply to you at all, congradulations, you have an open mind and an IQ above 75.

I actually agree with most of this. Especially the thing about more than raw instrumental talent going into a good song. However, you CAN compare Rush to 311, or any other band to any other band. I personally hate Rush and have never heard of 311. Opinions do matter, and, seriously, "nu-metal" is the worst genre. Period. Walls of sound aren't music. You see what I did there? That's my opinion, and I shouldn't have to post '"that's my opinion" after it. So, do not put your opinions up as facts. But state it - that's why these boards are fun. No two people have the same taste in music.

i see your point there. but for things like rap and hip hop... its another story. i mean, there IS a reason to criticize lyrics like "under my umbrella. brella. brella. eh? eh?"

that really takes very little songwriting skill at all. expression? still just as bad. there are reasons music critiqued. but i see your point about musical skill vs songwriting. i see bands like Say Anything and NIN like that. they dont have huge guitar solos or anything, but are great songwriters.

I think the trolls are adapting... their skills in the art of argument were never this high (Not that they are clever or anything, they are just much more persistent, and prone to more "in depth" stupidity)

While they're still driving home moronic points, it makes it harder for the layman to recognize their stupidity. Usually when you see them complement bands like Fall Out Boy, and see their utterly flawed arguments

Tman inspired a generation of Rock Band forum idiots to take up arms, and do more to push their stupidity on the forums This does not bode well for the forums, as well as the intelligent population on these forums.
