I'm on my 3rd guitar now. All have had downstrum issues. Has anyone received a replacement that works? I know they have updated the hardware - is there a different serial number I should be looking for? Has anyone successfully modded their broken guitars to work on their own?

After shelling out $179 for the game + 2 $100 credit card holds; I'm getting mighty sick of dealing with Harmonix's lack of an acceptable solution.

I wish they could send me a working guitar as fast as they moved this thread...

I just received my replacement guitar today in the mail. I am not happy with it either. I am a huge fan of GH. I play 1, 2, & 3, and none of the guitars for GH are as bad as the one that comes with RB. I am so disappointed. The GH guitar strum bar for 360 and Wii clicks when you strum up and down and the one that comes with the RB game I have for 360 does not click. Does any one's click? The old one doesn't click and the new one doesn't click either. And, it doesn't seem to be working right. I'd send the guitar back again. I think that's what I am going to do.

The rock band ones are not supposed to click.

What do you mean by "downstrum issues?" The replacement guitars all have modified strum bars that, by all reports and our own internal testing have resolved the strum failure and double strum issues.

If yours are simply arriving faulty (strum bar failure, etc.), then I suggest you continue to seek an operational replacement through EA - like I said, the replacements you are receiving should not be repeating the failures that have occurred with the earlier models.

To address the other question: the guitar should not "click," as it wasn't designed to do so.

I'm going to be requesting another replacement soon. The replacement that I was shipped seems to be more reliable on quick downstrums but it is still faulty. Sometimes it thinks that it is stuck in the downstrum position even though I'm not even touching the strummer. This became very obvious when navigating the song list and it suddenly takes a dive to the bottom. Also, overdrive either goes off without any effort on my part or it refuses to go off until i miss a note. It's really weird.
