Are there batteries in the 360 guitar, and, this is probably a stupid question, is it wireless?

No and no.
If it doesn't have batteries, it's probably not wireless.

Not wireless but yes it does have a place for batteries strangly enought. I think that you can use batteries in it only if you don't want to us the USB adapter I think. I have never put batteries in mine to see what it does. If i'm wrong some one please correct me on this. I'm taking a stab in the dark here.

I don't think that's the case.
I've plugged in directly to the Xbox and to the adapter without batteries.

They used the same casing of the guitar for the PS3 and X360 versions to save money.
Only the PS3 version needs batteries.

it's called economies of scale, the more standard parts there are in a mass produced item the cheaper it becomes to manufacture.
