What were some of the most hyped games of this generation?

I think GTA IV and Halo 3 were probably the biggest two. I honestly can't decide which one was more, though.

Gears 2 wasn't even announced until the E3 before it was released. That gave it what... like 4 months to be hyped? Yeah. Not really.

Halo 3 was hyped for like 2 years. Maybe it was a year. The Halo 3 E3 2006 trailer was pretty epic though. First thing showed at that years E3 on G4.

Call Of Duty 4: Modern Warfare 2, I mean they moved other blockbusters out of it's way.

Fable II and Spore are the biggest failures in term of meeting their hype expectations.

Other hyped games: Halo 3, both Gears of War (it doesn't matter how long they were hyped, it matters how large the hyping was in the time it was hyped and for GoW, that was quite a lot), God of War 3, any CoDs released after the original CoD4 release.

Note that a hyped game doesn't necessarily mean it's bad, which is what I'm inferring from some of your posts, especially the people getting defensive of GoW. Hype is simply hype.

Halo 3? Don't you all remember the hype machine that surrounded Halo 2? That eclipsed 3 tenfold! November 9th is practically a Microsoft Holiday now.
