If you preorder at gamestop, they have beta keys. So basically, you can pay 5 dollars and have beta access to see if you even like the game to buy it. We just bought our preorders :)

I preordered it off Amazon, wanted the ring of earth :P, but yeah, I'll be there too. Let me know what server you'll be on. I'm leaning towards Elyos. I hope you're not rolling Asmodian.

Did you try it yet? Are there monthly fees?

I'd like to try beta, but I simply don't have the expendable cash. I think I'll just wait till it comes out. Like most MMOs it has to have a free trial period...

Right?

...RIGHT?

TBH it never caught my eye, it just seems to me like an average Korean grindfest...

I literally bought the preorder like 30 mins ago, and its installing now. I honestly dont know if there is a monthly fee, but I would assume so. I'll see if i can find that on their website.

Dae#2, I dont know what i'm rolling, i actually havent read up on the game itself - i just saw the graphics, saw it was an MMO and knew it was up my alley.

14.99 USD will be the monthly fee. I didn't get to try it since by the time I pre-ordered it, closed beta events were over.

oh F yeah, there's an assassin DPS class. That's me. I ALWAYS play rogues, i'm good at it.

Dae#2, the betas are still going right now, only on weekends though.

I'm torn between it, Global Agenda and the new WoW expac. And of course when Final Fantasy XIV comes out I'll have to try that...cause it can't possibly be as bad as XI.

That's the other reason it never caught my eye, 15$ a month is way too high a price to play a game...

Oh, should be getting my codes soon then. I'm gonna be a Ranger most likely.

My very first MMO character was a ranger, but i've really enjoyed assassins. The download is gonna take quite awhile, but we hope to play it some this weekend in the beta :)

They just sent out an email, if you preordered, there is a beta available from Sept 6-13th. Also, if you preorder you get to start playing the game 2 days before people who did not.

I would ask them if they are offering the beta keys with their preorders then. Mine came in a CD case with a card inside with my beta access number when we preordered in person at gamestop. Then, yesterday, we signed up for our accounts and got our email about the beta today with everyone else who has the preorder beta card.

They are. I checked. It says they send the code out 3 days before the beta event so I guess I have to wait till the 3rd.

DLC =/= a monthly subscription... The subscription model doesn't work well for me, it makes me feel like I always need to play to get my money's worth, especially at 15$ a month, when I really only play like a couple hours a week. I really wish more MMO's would either go the Guild Wars route or at least lower the price to maybe $5 or $10...

DLC's different, you don't keep paying to play after the initial purchase.

The problem with Guild Wars is the fact that they release so many expansions. While so do many other games, they usually offer some kind of package of deal, where you can get all the games for a decent price. Guild Wars didn't, making it a much more hefty investment if you decided to play it.

Anyways, back on topic, as much as I'd like to not pay monthly, it seems like its a necessary evil. Every F2P game I've played had the same flaws. Except Megaten Online, that game's pretty awesome. Of course, I do really love the SMT franchise so I'm biased.

I wanna try this, sometime. I'm thinking of pre-ordering it for some Guild Wars thing that comes with it, or something. I'm looking for an MMO I can play now, I quit WoW last month.

Champions Online is neat, but I don't wanna get that then realize I like something else more.

Eh, I bought it a couple months ago, they had the first three campaigns for like 40$ on steam... It was on sale I think... I just don't like the subscription model, like I said it makes me feel like I need to play to get full value...

Bah, after downloading the damn patcher for 4 hours I found I couldn't even unzip all the required files. Then I accidentally deleted my download list so now I'm trying to torrent it which is going to take even longer than downloading but at least then I won't have to unzip buggy files. Ugh, I'm tempted to skip the beta and just wait for my install disc on the 22nd. If I do decide to wait, you mind claiming my name for me Daes? Then delete the character after I get the game finally.

I am strongly considering it, a buddy of mine at work is going to be playing the beta. If I do I will more than likely be playing Elyos, probably a mage or a priest. I like how priests in this game are armor wearing, melee fighting D&D cleric types, not the squishy weak clothies they are in WoW.

I've been a bit of an MMOG fiend since I first started with EQ back in '98 (EQ II, LotRO, AO, COH, Planetside, Eve, Horizons, RO, UO, L2...you name it I've probably tried it), so I had to pre-order and get into an AION beta a few weekends ago. Honestly, after playing it for about 5-6 hours (got to lvl 11 on a Spiritmaster), it felt like a more polished version of Lineage, but played like a more gimped version of WoW.

I had no technical issues, and downtime between fights was practically nill. I only died once, but this was a "noobie" zone, so I didn't expect to be challenged all that much. There's an integrated quest tracker so you know exactly where to go and what to do at all times, which is kinda nice and kinda not. Quests were linear and in the typical hub setup. The graphics were gorgeous, as you can expect from a game using the CryEngine. Spell effects were very cool, and I didn't get lost at all. I could visually find my way to every area I wanted.

However, I'm not a fan of RPG PvP, and as such I'm not willing to put time into a game where that's the end result for my character. Especially a PvP ranking system that works like the old WoW BG system (finite spots at each "rung" of PvP levels).

These are impressions from the early areas, but it felt like the all too familiar WoW quest/level grind that all MMOGs employ. Perhaps I'm finally wearing thin of MMOGs. It seems no one can do it right, and everything from now on is just going to be another WoW clone since that formula works.

If you don't mind PvP as the next "evolution" of your character at higher levels, then by all means check this game out. Especially if you've played (and enjoyed) WoW before; as it feels very similar. For me, however, I'm still waiting for that next innovative MMOG. Here's to hoping that Star Wars: The Old Republic is it...

Edit: Oh, and one thing I just remembered. There's a cool little feature in the game where, when you reach lvl 10, you become an "angel" and have flight capabilities, for both traveling and fighting. Sounds awesome, right? It is! Until you realize that there's a time limit on flying each time you lift into the air. I'm not sure how much this changes later in the game, but I was hoping for some sort of unlimited flight travel ability. *sighs*

So preorder the game right now at Gamestop for 5 dollars, and then play the beta for a week and see if you like it. The beta is open from the 6-13th.

Daem, I'm not sure if I'm for sure ordering the game, i'm not setting anything to stone until I try the beta. BUT, if i do go with it, I will reserve your name if you dont get in before the public.

Daemius: If you havent got your beta key yet, call and complain to amazon CS. A coworker of mine said that he called and was told they wouldnt ship the beta key until the product ships

He was able to convince them to email him the beta key, so if you dont have yours yet, call and request the same thing.

I got mine on the 3rd but thanks for checking in :) Finally got the game installed and patched to 1.0.5 so I'll happily be playing on Sunday. I'll be rolling Asmodian with some of my old WoW friends on I dunno what server yet but I'll let you know. You should roll with us :D

Siel is full, can't get on. Also can't roll Asmodian on the server my wow friends ended up going to (Kaisenel or something like that). Developer controlled population is a major turn off for me. If I can't roll the race my friends are on the server they're on whenever I want to I'm seriously reconsidering giving these guys my money.

Daes, we're on Lumiel now. I'm still Daemius and Asmodian.

Wolfbeckett

So besides the server population problems and the frankly idiotic population control BS, is the game fun once you actually do get in?

Daesania
09-08-2009, 04:00 PM
Yeah, the fact that you can only have one race per server really pisses me off. That's a huge turnoff for me, BUT, other than that, I kind of enjoy the game. We'll probably play some more tonight, but my fiancee already has played to level 15 on one of his characters and enjoys it as well. To me, its too much like wow setup, so the end game is really where its going to matter for me.

Daemius
09-08-2009, 08:48 PM
The game's very pretty. Flying is fun but far too limited. The scout classes are very difficult to start out with which is a bit of bummer, since they're also one of the most expensive. Other than that, nothing exceptional so far except the graphics. Game is far too gear intensive imo. Weapons start to become obsolete only a couple levels after you get them because monster hp and defense skyrocket each level. Casters probably have it easier since they don't need gear to do damage.

I'm definitely grabbing this now. The last week or so of research has convinced me. I'll be playing with most of my ex-WoW guild mates and a bunch of RL friends. When I figure out what server I'm playing on, anyone that cares to join is welcome. Unless you're a jerk. Then I'll just punch you in the taint.

Just finished uninstalling Aion, the NCsoft launcher, and canceling my pre-order. Game just wasn't for me. It's too much like a slightly easier FFXI except without the FF to actually keep me playing :p

i'm still undecided.

What finally convinced me is that everyday I kept playing all I could say about the game was "It's pretty". Good graphics aren't enough to keep me paying a subscription fee though. Overall the game felt too much like a F2P MMO that I'd end up having to pay for.

Daesania
09-10-2009, 08:44 PM
I just have no pull to the game. I've played it twice. That's not a large enough pull to justify a 50 dollar purchase plus the monthly fee. I think we might wait to see what the end game is like after the game has been out awhile.
