I would really like to use the practice option to practice my vocals on certain sections of songs. I have currently found no way to do this. Is this not an option? If so it seems a bit of an oversight. Considering i now have to just sing the whole song, or wait for the phrase to show up at the end and try once and restart....
Is there no way to just choose a set of phrases to practice?
If not, can we please make this possible? Currently there's no point in using practice for vocals unless its at the very begining of a song.
Even a fast forward or skip option to get to a certain section quicker would be appreciated.

Sorry, you can't do that. If one or two phrases fail you out of the song, then you would probably have to improve other parts of the song so you'll have to sing the whole song anyway. I do see your point though. Sorry there's not a better solution.

The word you're looking for for this design "decision" is: unfathomable.

Actually, I'm starting to wonder if this isn't intentional.
Not to say that the vocals are "easy" by an stretch, as anyone with no previous singing experience will tell you if they try singing a song on Expert. But I would imagine that for the people with a good ear for music, having a practice mode similar to the drum and guitar sections would make the singing aspect of the game far, far too easy.
I'm not the best singer by far, but I have a decent ear for notes. So even doing something as simple as listening to the song that's giving me problems once before going into the game version immediately clears up the problem and I can pass section. If they had a practice mode where people actually could practice problem spots, it might only take one or two tries to master those "tricky bits," so perhaps the less robust practice mode has been deliberately crippled as an obstacle to keep the more musically inclined from simply wading into Expert vocals and gold starring every song they come across within two or three attempts.

That's not really Harmonix's style to introduce artificial difficulty by making it a pain in the ass to practice.
This was just a screw-up on their part.

The difference is that you are actually singing. You can practice singing a song at anytime. Buy the cd or song, go to youtube and watch a video and sing along with it, pick a song and start singing, etc. You can't practice guitar or drums at anytime. It's a completely different thing.

You can also practice pushing buttons on all the controllers any time you want too. The point of the practice mode is to see what the game thinks of your performance. You can't get that unless the game is actively judging you as you perform. So it's exactly like the other instruments' practice modes.
I really can't believe that HMX would ever actively deny gamers educational/improvement materials. It's not their style; they want you to end up being good at playing the song not challenge you for challenge's sake. Maybe it was a design oversight or some sort of technical hurdle, but conscious design design it was not.

good idea. now when i'm watching tv. I can also be mashing buttons on my controller, so that I can get better at sniping in halo. I can't wait to show everyone my newfound skills :D
I would like to have a vocal practice mode too. foreplay longtime anyone?

I haven't even used the vocal practice mode, but personally I'd rather have it cover the whole song than specific parts anyway. I'm not the type of person to randomly belt out a lyric in the middle of the second verse without any lead-in or anything. ;)
Although I wouldn't complain about being able to skip to a 'section' instead of a specific phrase for example.

I have been meaning to see if the vocals have a practice feature like GHII did ( I haven't even bothered to check RB for a guitar practice section). It's disapointing to hear there isn't one, but maybe one of the reasons it isn't included was potential pirating issues. The first thought I had in my mind (if there had been a practice mode) was to record the vocal-free tracks of my favorite songs and turn them into karaoke songs (for when I sing karaoke, which is usually once a week). I'm sure there's some copyright reason for them not including a vocal practice mode.

No, that's not quite right. There IS a vocal practice mode. You can find it when you go into the Training section. It's just that it's different from the other practice modes. The only thing it shares identically with guitar/drum practice modes is that you're still being judged, and you can't fail out. However the ability to slow the song down (which is an obvious exclusion) and the ability to jump to a specific section are missing. In other words, going into practice mode is just like playing the song with a "no fail" cheat enabled, but it lacks the same functionality of the other practice modes for the other instruments.

this as a HUGE letdown for me.
i'm having trouble hitting some of the notes in a lot of the songs and i just wanna practice and play around with my voice to see what to do to get it to match the pitch perfectly, but it's kind of hard to do it at full speed and it's extremely annoying having to wait for the vocals to start during a song with a lenghty intro.
seriously, harmonix, there's no excuse for not having "slow down by x%" or not being able to skip to a certain section.
it's extremely annoying and since i'm having trouble figuring out the pitch detector and why the #*$&% it won't budge no matter what i do.
EDIT: well, i'd still love the improved practice mode, but i just got A LOT happier since i just found the right octave to sing in.
too bad the only one i could find that works right is pretty low. but hey, it gets the job done.
