There are a lot of bad reviews on the Norton Safeweb site on Rapidshare, and a little less good reviews. Is Rapidshare really dangerous?

It's only as dangerous as every other method of sharing files over the internet. The site itself is fine, but the files may or may not contain malware. Use at your own risk and only download files from sources you trust.

I've used it a couple times for PS1 game ISO's, and never received a virus (strangely enough)...

if you're an idiot yes, for example if you download something like "facebook password cracker" and don't run a virus scan and it's just a .exe then yea it can be dangerous but like Mystlyfe said it's no more dangerous than any other file sharing system. I would recommend using Firefox with ad block plus when going to sites like this.

It gets bad reviews because it's slow...

To the last poster:

Canadian music like The Guess Who is more than welcome.

Canadian music like Nickelback is not.

That said, Rapidshare is only as dangerous as your e-mail inbox. It tends to be a dangerous world when you lack any sort of wit.

mediafire is 1000X better than any sharing site on the web

This. Megaupload is also great too. I avoid using Rapidshare whenever possible, mostly because of the annoying waiting times and 15 minute no-download period. The other two let you download two or more files simultaneously and have no waiting period, I believe.

most of what is downloaded on Rapidshare is illegal anyway so you should at LEAST have to wait to download stuff.

Agreed, but the person downloading doesn't really have that option all the time. I just wish everyone uploading files would pick mediafire.

Fixed ;)

I don't use filesharing programs, because I'm not afraid to spend my money.

What does that have to do with file sharing? File sharing has plenty of uses beyond piracy. In fact, I've regularly used hosting sites (such as mediafire) to share files needed with coworkers, classmates, and friends that we needed for various projects.

And I also can engage you in a debate about "piracy" some other time, but not in this thread.

Hey, I'm always game for a good debate, just not right now. I have to go to work in a half an hour.
