Guitar not synching

I just got Rockband for the PS3. It was kinda late so I figured I would just fool around with the guitar. Well I couldn't get it to synch, tried it both on the XMB screen and in the game(had to use the 6 axxis to get into the game) and nothing. I put the batteries in, and its turned on so I know thats not the problem. According to the instructions it should be as simple as hitting the synch button on the guitar, and then the PS looking button. Am I doing something wrong or did I get a defective guitar. For what its worth, the mic works , I haven't tried the drums yet. Thanks.

heres what i do, turn off the guitar via the switch on back, turn it back on, click button on usb dongle, then click little white button on guitar near ps button, hold it, then release bingo.

Sadly that did not work for my guitar and i tried to get it to sync but it wouldnt work
