View Full Version : I've got Guitar Hero 5 and I must say...

The presentation is truly awesome.
If the tracklist wasn't so weak and they had a large list of great DLC like Rock Band, they would've really outdone themselves.
The Party Play is awesome, and I don't really want Harmonix and Rock Band 3 to necessarily copy things, but man it's too cool.
Gotta say I'm impressed with the overall gameplay.
The Hardest song on guitar is Spirit Of The Radio by Rush and I beat it way too easily for it to be the toughest, lol.
The second hardest drum song is Brianstorm by Arctic Monkeys and WOW that is a beast. I have my gripe that they don't re-chart hi-hat to red like RB does, but that song is a monsterrrr.
While Rock Band is still the better game, the cosmetic makeover GH5 got is very, VERY cool as well as the new gameplay features.
I give it an 8/10. Again if the tracklist was better this would be superb.

This is going to be moved, but from what I saw from GH5, it looked a ton better than WT.
Although, Spirit Of The Radio as the final song?

That's a nice, albeit brief, review.
I'll have to rent it someday to see if it's well worth keeping.
I've heard about export support from the previous Guitar Hero band games. Is this true?

ima rent it for some achievo's and then probably abandon it. Not enough good songs imo to justify buying. But then again I generally learn of new songs I hadn't heard before so maybe theres some gems there that i dont know yet. We shall see

I've been thinking about picking this up (despite it's overwhelming popularity), but if you've got it early, I'd love to hear your thoughts on the game.

Yeah, are you insinuating I don't have it? I'll gladly take a picture for you if you'd like.
I'm not here praising GH5 as something better than RB. I'm a Rock Band fanboy through and through I was just GENUINELY impressed by this.
Let's not get all butt-hurt. I'm saying what I am because most of the opinions I gathered from people on here was that GH5 wouldn't be any good. I'm letting you know that Harmonix has their work cut out for them if they are interested into competing cosmetically with their next release.

Ahh, got to love pointless arguments.
Anyway, I just got my copy today, and it is a great music game. Much better than I even expected. The note charts have been greatly improved, the interface has recieved an Extreme make-over to say the least, and the timing when hitting notes is now perfect (one of the best improvement from WORLD TOUR). The music studio has been improved greatly, but it's still going to take me awhile to get the hang of it. Countering this, GH Jams is awesome, letting you mess around on the fret board with a slew of different sound options. It's not in depth, but it's fun!
The biggest improvement (and win) is in the game's visual presentation. It's just a beautiful looking game this time around. Best graphics in a music game so far. Animations (especially those of the celeb avatars) are stellar, most notably Shirley Manson and Matt Bellamy. Johnny Cash and Cobain look great, but their motion capture isn't as impressive for thier songs. All around, the venues, crowds, and next-gen graphical polish as a whole deliver a visual (cosmetic) presentation that is unmatched in the genre as of now. RB3, take note.
Now for the setlist. It's my favorite in any music game so far, but that obviously just reflects my personal taste. How one feels about the setlist as a whole will be the attribute that places this game at the top of gamer's music/rythm list or not. Even if your not in aw about the set, be sure to atleast check the game out for it's stellar gameplay, amazing visuals, and it's abundance of new, extensive, and interesting features (I haven't come close to getting around to all of the yet).
I'd give Guitar Hero 5 a 9/10.
BREAKDOWN:
1. Guitar Hero 5
2. Rock Band 2 (due to the fact I don't buy a lot of DLC)
3. Guitar Hero Metallica
4. Rock Band
5. Guitar Hero 3
6. Guitar Hero 2
7. Guitar Hero World Tour
8. Guitar Hero: Smash Hits
9. Guitar Hero
10. Guitar Hero: Aerosmith

You could make an argument. So Whatcha Want is only like 3 and a half minutes. This is nearly 14 of playing the same exact thing for about 12 minutes of it.
AND it's supposed to be the hardest bass song in the game. That's sad.
