Okay, so if I go buy Rock Band today, and the "born on" date on the package is recent, is it fair to assume my guitar won't malfunction? Is it still only the day-one buyers who are having equipment problems?

I honestly doubt it. I haven't heard of any guitar being flawless. Even the new versions seem to be failing over time. If you really want the game, just buy it and deal with that possibility :(

It's always been safe to buy Rock Band. I haven't yet heard of any Rock Band related fatalities, and the injuries have primarily been limited to drummers whacking themselves in the head with sticks.

But...pfft...they're drummers. What can we expect?

When he says safe he refers to the malfunction guitars or whatever.

Hi. You must be new here. I'm the guy who was trying to make a little joke.

Guess I'd better work on my delivery.

I'm doing the safest thing I can... buying the game only for my PS2, using the Red Octane guitars and KR mic and forgetting about drums for awhile.

XBox360 owners can do the same thing.

Fortunately for me, I bought mine on midnight opening day and all my equipment is working flawlessly. Just lucky I guess.

I think mine was from the initial shipment, judging by how beat up the unopened box looked when I got it a few days ago. Whammy bar's broken (still responsive, but the spring or rubber band or whatever broke and now there's no tension), but otherwise everything is working great.

Feeling the love DFX?

I was going to make a post pretty much identical to yours. Curse me for sleeping.

But on a non-humor note, it's always been "safe" to buy Rock Band. Sure there have been some hassles with broken parts but EA is doing a fine job of taking care of it.

I'm still of the mind that a majority of the problems arised from people being taught to play guitar by playing on the Guitar Hero controllers.

People picked up the Strat and expected it to play the same as the Gibson and it just plain doesn't. It's a different design and it's not made for the "jam the strum" method that the GH controllers use.

My Fender registers a strum with the barest of movement. I can lightly tap my strummer and it works.

My bundle's born on date is 11/06 and my guitar is screwed up. I wish I would have just bought GH2 and the RB game only.
