PS3 equipment to PS2

First, I wasn't sure where to post this, but here it goes.
Does the PS3 equipment work for the PS2 version? As, I herd PS2 works for PS3. The reason I'm asking is because my brother has a PS3 and will only be in town here and there, while I have a PS2. I want to play the PS3 version of the game, but when he leaves I want to know if the PS3 stuff will work with my PS2. As, I'd be the one buying the game.

The PS2 and PS3 instruments are identical. They are %100 the same.
