View Full Version : Have a magnetic guitar, but seems sloppy...

Seems to work just fine, no double strumming, and all buttons and functions work just fine. But the strum bar seems it takes more effort to get it to strum. I like to just tap or flick the strummer to play notes. On this magentic design I have to push it all the way down to where it stops, just to hit a note. and even if I do press down hard enough, it only registers a strum maybe 85-95% of the time. Upstrum is no different. Nothing is broke, its just very unsensitive.

If I played on medium, it would be perfectly fine with me, but I play mostly on hard and on a good night I'll step up to expert on most songs, and I just can't hit notes fast enough with this new strum bar design. I am ok with the fact that it doesnt click, which is something I liked on GH guitars. I love the way the guitar feels. Its comfortable to play for hours with, and I like how the fret buttons feel compared to GH guitars. But the strum is too limp, and just takes to much effort to make it register notes. Even the original guitar from my bundle worked much better, until the strummer broke of course.

Now my questions are as follows. Is my strummer supposed to work this badly? If not is it worth taking a chance on another replacement with same design to see if its improved at all? Last question, are there chances of another design that has better sensitivity?

I own 2 GH guitars, so I am not in any rush for a solution. I just want to know if I should hope for a better RB guitar, or if I should just give up and be happy with what I got. I'll just let my buddies play guitar the whole time and they can pry the drum sticks out of my cold dead hands:p

What is the mfg date on the bottom of your bundle?

My $0.02 is that everyone with even the slightest problem with their guitar should send it back. These problems should have been worked out before the game went on sale.

Its a replacement guitar that I got back just yesterday. I appreciate the advice, but i'll wait until a better design is made before I request a new one. Unless of course the current designed is supposed to be more sensitive, then I'll give it another shot at another one.

This is how my replacement is. It seems as if EA is having all of us be beta testers until they find a design that woks flawlessly. My opinion is that unless they come up with a design that is identical to GH guitars, nothing will be perfected. It is beyond me how a company can continue to spend the enormous amount of money they are spending on replacements and still not have a perfected design. I would hate to be in a position at EA that is responsible for keeping their bottom line intact!!

Very well said bud. Thanks for the reply. I can now only assume most if not all magnetic strummers work poorly. I guess I'll bite the bullet and be happy with my GH guitars. Unless I read somewhere that the design has improved, it will be pointless to try for another replacement.

I don't know who to hold responsible for the design, but I don't know what is wrong with sticking with a design that works. I have owned 4 total guitars from GH, on PS2 and 360. All 4 worked perfect.

How do you tell that it is a magnetic strummir ?

I read a post somewhere that they are putting a piece of foam behind the contacts to stop them from bending and making a continous contact.

Sounds more like you got that fix and the foam is too thick to allow the contact to travel far enough without pushing hard on the strummer.

Hail hail to all us beta testers

How do your frets sound on your guitar?

My first one was fine, nice and quite, and the guitar only gave out when I could hold down the strum and it would keep hitting notes randomly.

My replacement one has no overdrive, and the frets are extremely loud. I am hoping the loud frets are not standard now.

You can thank Microsoft for introducing "End Consumer Beta Testing" phases. All started with Windows 95 and I guess the rest of the companies around the world said to themselves "Hey, if Microsoft can get away with it ..."

My fret buttons are pretty loud compared to my GH guitars. But not sure if its any different from my first guitar that came with my bundle. The buttons never really bothered me much, probably cause I am too focused on the limp strum bar.

I don't have a problem at all with the strummer randomly hittin notes, and it returns to the center. But its just not stiff enough to return back to center fast enough for me to flick or push it. I have to hold it with both thumb and index fingers to make it strum fast enough to hit a series of notes. I pulled the cover off to see it was the magnetic design, and it was for sure. The mechanics just look too simple and half-assed to be a stable design.

There will have to be a overall better model before the wireless 360 guitars become available. The question is how long it will take. EA has a reputation for giving up on fixing problems with current games, and just abandon the game overall. They do it every year with their nascar titles, and some of their other one hit wonders. But as I mentioned, I'm not at all sure who is responsible for this bad design. Given the technology we have had for a while now with the electronic drum sets, USB microphones, and near flawless designs of the GH guitars.....you'd think there was no way they go wrong with the hardware.

I'll wait patiently for better instruments, as long as EA doesn't abandone support for their game. But I trust Harmonix will do all they can to continue to make this game better.
