Dear HMX/EA/MTV Games,

I know you're probably sick of all these negative threads here on the forum, and I know you're all up to your ears in repairs/complaints, and i'm sure it's hard for you guys to catch a break this Holiday season, but I come to you today with one simple request, and it happens to be my ONE wish for Christmas! The one thing that would warm my heart more than sitting by the warm fire, or huddled together with family and friends on Christmas morning. All I ask is that I can somehow have a 100% working version of Rock Band...

It may be too much to ask for, because let's face it, there probably aren't that many 100% fully functional copies of the "Special Edition" bundle for Rock Band. But the odds of me picking up one that is currently, oh i'd say, 30% functional, were good. And I'm not ungrateful, I appreciate all the hard work that went into making this game. And I really enjoyed it's amazingness for the literally 2 weeks of enjoyment I got out of it. And those almost 10 days of "Rocking!" were amazing and fun! But now, I sit here on this cold December Saturday, bored and ready to "ROCK" once again, but alas my guitar is broken and sitting in a warehouse somewhere in Michigan. Ignored and defective, collecting dust, crudely placed in it's cardboard coffin. Along with my Drum Kit, which broke shortly after the guitar did.

I could however reach for my trusty Rock Band Special Edition microphone and sing the night away while I wait for my other instruments to come home! Though, alas, the game presents an excruciating amount of audio lag, and my vocals pour out from my Dolby 5.1 audio system seconds later than they should. The scoring system marks down an embarrassing amount of mistakes, and discourages me from continuing. Not because I can't sing well, but because the lag makes the game think I'm singing out of sync with the song! So i'm left with a non-working game. Bored and defeated, all I want to do is play this amazing game! But now I actually CAN'T!

It's not your fault HMX/EA/MTV Games that my instruments broke when they did, and it's not your fault that I can't sing out of sync with a song. Its just YOUR FAULT that the game, FLAT OUT DOES NOT WORK. And with that said HMX/EA/MTV Games, if you're listening, I beg you, as a consumer, as an admirer of your hard work, as a lover of games, and music, PLEASE, PLEASE, PLEASE FIX THESE PROBLEMS FOR THE HOLIDAYS!

In closing, i'd just like to speak for the entire Rock Band community and say: Thank you HMX/EA/MTV Games, for making arguably the greatest game ever made! Thank you for your hard work, and admiration for music, and music based games. For without you, we would not be graced with such an amazing, innovative, entertaining game. And I wish you all a safe and happy holiday season, to you and your families! But, for me? I'll most likely have an amazing Christmas, with family and friends, but deep down inside, i'll be sad, disappointed and angry. Because even though you made an amazing game, I won't be able to enjoy it this Christmas. And that's a right I should have as a consumer who purchased a product with the promise of fun, and entertainment, and 100% functionality. If I had known that promise would end up being a temporary one, I would not have purchased this game. But I did, and I enjoyed it, for the little time I had with it...

So HMX/EA/MTV Games, if your listening, from one soul to another, please fix this horrible mess, and please make this game 100% functional soon. Because I don't know how much longer I will be able to support a company/companies who make a promise to consumers that they can't keep...

-Merry Christmas

You want them to fix your sound system setup?

You want them to fix your sound system setup?

No, that's ridiculous. If you read the first sticky thread in the TECH forum, you'll see that I, and MANY others are experiencing audio lag on their setups. Now I don't expect HMX/EA/MTV Games to fix my audio setup, but I do expect a REASON as to why so many people are experiencing this problem, and for there to be an isolated fix.

This is pretty close to what I said to EA yesterday

"I understand that contructing a game from day one has got to be a lot of work, but I strongly believe that as a consumer, I shoulnd't have to open the back of my guitar and insert small pieces of paper, I shouldn't have to tighten any screws, I shouldn't have to purchase 3rd party metal plates to cover my bass pedal, nor should I have to tape down the pads for the sensativity to be "closer" to acurate. I will send you back my faulty instruments, and in return, please just give me some that work. I don't care how long it takes, I just want instruments I don't have to alter."

They pretty much said

"We'll get them right out to you, but we cannot guarentee the quality"

... thanks

I don't think they actually read many of these "hate mail" type threads anyways.

Well I would imagine that they read popular threads, and if this thread gets popular enough, it would be hard to avoid...

I suspect that the reality of the situation (as several others have pointed out as well on other threads) is that the majority of bundles have been problem-free. It's just that those of us who were unfortunate enough to get faulty equipment right before the busiest time of year are much more vocal than those who haven't had any problems.

This may be a silly question, but have you tried calibrating the lag as suggested over and over on the loading screens? I'm not fortunate enough to have a supplemental sound system, so I don't know what the variations are. I only ask because you didn't mention in your post "I've tried calibrating for lag umpteen times to no avail." or some such.

My replacement guitar seems to be gathering dust somewhere as well. Luckily I have the GH3 LP to get me through until EA finds it and puts it on a truck.

You certainly aren't out of line in your desire to have a fully functional game, but I think you're right that having it by Dec 25 may be a pipe dream. At least your rant was rational, well written and thoughtful. Which is more than can be said for some of the irrational, unrealistic whiners we've all come across on these boards.

And it does feel good to vent, doesn't it?
