RB1 Drums don't turn on (PS3)

I recently bought a PS3 slim. Drums worked great the first day. The next day they won't power on. The other instruments all work fine.
I initially had firmware 2.8, and now 3.0. I know there was a problem where controllers would be incorrectly assigned, but my drums won't even turn on so I can't reassign it.

Any suggestions?

The ION drums were having trouble getting enough power from the PS3 slim. A powered USB hub solves that problem. Have you tried a powered USB hub?

That was it!
I hadn't heard of that issue so I looked it up. One guy tested his drums by plugging them into his laptop. I tried that and they powered up so I just bought a powered usb hub and they are working now!
I guess that how they got part of the 34% reduced power consumption for the slim...
