The speed of the song stays the same with breakneck speed on.

It's simply an On/Off as before.

I must be the last person on earth that doesn't find breakneck speed easier than normal speed. Everybody raved about it on RB2, I tried it, played worse, and switched back to normal forever.

Me too...until I realized that it helped me with certain songs and parts of songs. One night I was playing GG&HT over and over with it on trying to improve my score. Not only was I doing much better, but I was starting to get used to the speed. I still wasn't great with it on every song (especially sightreads) but I forced myself to leave it on and after a couple days it no longer seemed fast at all and all my scores have improved immensely. Fast solos are actually fun now instead of WTF???
So basically if you have patience and let yourself get used to it, it could help you.
