There are other reasons that you lost.

My point wasn't that people are somehow inadequate for not being able to do that type of math. It was that people were saying "geometry is just how many sides a triangle has" or that "algebra is just finding x." Both of those statements are rather inadequate and silly.
But neither problem I presented is anything above high school level. It's not like I was giving out differential equations or linear algebra problems. Hell, I wasn't even giving out calculus problems.

And even if you don't care about "finding x," you use algebra in cost accounting frequently. You just don't recognize it as such, as you're not labeling the variables you're looking for as "x."

Hmmm, I'm honestly not sure if that's the only case in which that would work. It proves that it doesn't break the fact that two triangles with unequal angles and a common side stuck together can form a quadrilateral. But I'm not sure if that's exclusive, or not.

I realize that, but its still quite simple. Its really the qualitative side and your judgement that qualifies you to become an accountant, outside of the obvious knowledge base.

I wouldn't know where to begin with your problems, but not because I haven't studied them or anything. Just because I'm out of practice. Its been a few years.
