View Full Version : I see a crack in my kick pedal

For a few days now I would occasionally get a feeling that my socks were sticking, just a little bit, to the pedal. At first I thought it was my socks, but upon further examination I realized that my kick pedal was on the verge of snapping in half with the next frantic stomp, and that "sticking" feeling was actually part of my sock getting stuck in the crack when it opened up. I noticed it when I was waiting for the song to load. I saw a white streak on the pedal, which i tried to rub off. That's when i realized that it was cracked, but I was online and the song had loaded. So I tried to not stomp and ended up 98%'ing the song. (Softer IS better, lol)
Now I don't know what to do. Should I RMA it, keep playing until it breaks, buy one of those reinforcing metal plates which would void the warranty, or create my own with a real pedal that I would have to buy. I bought my bundle on Black Friday (11/23) so my warranty is set to expire in about a month. I've had no problems with anything else. Pics below:

Request a box, play until it breaks, send it in for a replacement.

I'm wondering if they even tested these pedals out before shipping them, because everyone is breaking them. I have yet to break mine though because I tap it so soft since I'm afraid of doing the same...
But I would request another one right away because these pedals bend even without a crack in them and yours is going to snap in no time.

It almost looks like it already has.

Your pedals got a crack in it, and you've already broken your drumsticks...
Methinks your need to calm it down a bit.

Lightly tapping the pads will register a hit and you should try to leave your foot on the pedal at all times, pressing down when you need to. Taking your foot off the pedal = bad. I haven't broken a drumstick or pedal yet.

Mine just cracked tonight also. I felt the sock sticking and upon closer inspection noticed the crack. I didn't have any problems till tonight, when I just started playing some hard songs. Oh well. I'll wait for my new guitar on Monday, hopefully it works so I can use that deposit to get a new pedal here before this one breaks in half.

Haha yeah I know. It's just that on the more difficult songs there are sections where you have to press the kick pedal like 6 times in 3 seconds (cough Welcome Home), which results in stomping and/or taking my foot off the pedal. I also have the sound damping "mod" (which consists of foam+felt cut to fit the pad) on my kit so I have to hit a bit harder. But it gets the job done, I accomplished my long time goal of completing ...And Justice For All, inspired by this video>:

Man, I'm a drummer for at least 10+ years and man, you just can't retrain someone who just wants to rock on the drums. Before that pedal board breaks through completely, get one of those plates one of the community members is selling on e-bay... ...mine just broke today...check out http://community.rockband.com/vbforum/showthread.php?t=16216 for what I did.

Indeed he is. You can see in his video for "Outside" that he uses a real pedal. Also posted a vid explaining it. Now i just need to get a hold of a real kick pedal somebody doesnt want...im not gonna spend $80 on it lol.

I make every adult (well, everyone over 12 years old) take off their shoe(s) before playing the drums as it seems to help quite a bit in keeping the pedal from stressing, cracking or snapping.

I play with socks, as i mentioned before. But what Im going to do is tape something sturdy to the pedal temporarily, request a box, try to find a real kick pedal and make the button, then send mine in and use the real pedal until i get my replacement.
