December 17th 2009. This will be the first game I ever import. Thank god PS3 is region free.

Edit: March 9th 2010 in America and Europe. Less than 3 months so I think I'll just wait rather than import.

I think that for an RPG of that magnitude, I would like to understand what the hell is going on in the story. So no import for me.

Ehhhh, too close to Xmas. It would be hard to even get a hold of that then, and I wouldn't even be able to enjoy it that time of year.
Might just end up waiting for the US release after all.

I've given serious thought to importing, but I may just wait. I'll be playing Dragon Age in November, that should hold me over until March when GoW III comes out, and that should hold me until FF XIII comes out in the states.

Me either, but I'll give XIV a try, just like I did XI and WOW. So far, I haven't found an MMO I like.

I've never actively gotten into an MMO, but i've fooled around with them. I just don't think they should be attaching "Final Fantasy" on to it just for name recognition. Plus i'm not keen on monthly fees to play my games. I already pay for XBL and that's enough.

I was excited about this at first but that website makes it look like it's just going to be a reskinned FFXI. The gear on the characters in the third tab looks just like the crap from FFXI. The crafter's hairstyle is the exact same as one of the human hairstyles in FFXI. Here's to hoping they do a lot more than update the graphics on FFXI :p

I'm betting it'll be out by mid-late spring. Square Enix starts doing the translation job while they're still working on the original Japanese game nowadays, so instead of taking 6+ months, I've noticed they've been getting games out a little faster.

Reps have said they started the translation process earlier than usual to shrink the release gap. I'll believe it when I see it.
Count me out on XIV too. I spend a lot of time on RPGs, but MMOs are too much time sinks for me. And then monthly fees scare off what little interest I have. Although I would be more interested in a FF MMO since I'm kind of a Square Enix sucker. IDK why they insist numbering them in the main series, seems Final Fantasy Online would have just as much brand strength.

Right, but Blizzard slapped the Warcraft name onto their MMO, so it's not really a new strategy.
Personally, I don't mind the monthly fee thing, as I do almost all of my gaming on PSN. Sometimes I let my XBL account lapse for a month or more.

XII was the last true FF, and besides, SE has been recording/localizing XIII in conjuction with the Japanese VA. April still seems spot on, unless they're changing the lip sync in all the cutscenes to match the language. Which I highly doubt.

Not only was the gambit system very well thought out, it was higly addictive for me. Rough estimation, of the 112 hours I put into XII, probably 20-25 of that was tweaking my gambits. I was addicted to trying out new combinations constantly.
It's too bad the story/characters were so lackluster, though I don't understand the Star Wars rip off claims. I see almost nothing Star Wars about XII.

I was disappointed in XII only because the story, which started out with so much potential for a politically based conflict, devolved into a generic "bad guy makes pact with evil force to rule the world" plot. And the characters, aside from Balthier and Basch, were boring.
I enjoyed the gambit system and the license board, although the latter should have been modified so that it wasn't so easy to make every character equally good at everything.

The gambits are the main thing that pissed me off... there's something a bit.... upsetting about a game that can completely remove the player from the playing experience....

The licence board was the mostly pointless system ever. That said I enjoyed XII for the most part, although I would like FF to remain more turn based. And I liked it's attempt at a more sober narrative in contrast to X, even though it is ultimately too dry and bland. I'm hoping XIII tries to find a balance between the two, although the newest trailer looks more and more like FFX.
I'm also going to have to stop viewing all the media, or else I'm going to spoil too much of it by the time it comes out. :o

That's exactly what they are doing. It's one of the reasons the US/UK version will not be including the Japanese language tracks.

I never understand this reason for disliking the Gambit system. Gambits were always an option that was up to the player. You could turn them off and micro manage everything, or you could turn them on and decide how much of the characters actions were controlled by you and how much the cpu.

I've been following this game for years, and I've heard nothing of the sort.
The reason they aren't packing the Japanese language tracks is so they can keep the 360 version at four discs or fewer.

Blizzard also went with Warcraft because it was the most sensible MMO title, imagine a SC or Diablo MMO.
A Diablo MMO would be kick ass, but would butcher the whole story thing they got going.
Side note.... I WILL pre-order 2 copies. AND I WILL sit outside the ****ing Gamestop late at night just to get this damn game release day for myself and Overkill. Then I will sit down, say "**** WoW" and play it until I beat it, then min/max all the character for 2 year like I did w/ FFX.
