This guitar is made for the PS3, does it work on rockband or is it GHIII only?

Well that's an interesting product. The description and box shots indicate it's compatible with Guitar Hero 1, 2 and 3 on the PS3. I remain quite skeptical about that.

I doubt it would work with Rock Band, but if Harmonix patched their game to make it so, the GH3 Les Paul could also work by default. I can dream, right?

Interesting... I thought activision only wanted guitar hero controllers to work with their game, but on the the ezGear website, it says it works with guitar hero III.

I don't really know if it will work with rock band. As long as the manufacturer tried to make them work with rock band, they will work (since harmonix supports the "open standard"). But it doesn't say anything about rock band on the website, and I would think they would want to advertise if it was the only other guitar that worked with rock band. I think if I had to guess, I would say it doesn't.

But... 70$ for a wired guitar? For that much, I would expect it to work with more than just one game. And I wonder where they got the idea of having smaller frets at the bottom of the neck....

Edit: ah, I didn't get the significance of it working for gh 1 and 2 on the ps3. In that case, some people might be willing to spend 70 bucks on it.

Boy that guitar looks familiar.

Well the presence of the second set of frets leads to the assumption that it should work with Rock Band. But I couldn't justify spending that much for such a cheap looking wired guitar.

there's no PS button...i don't think i'd buy that.

Good point. But, the guitar pictured on the main site and the guitar pictured on the box art are slightly different.

Look at this picture. (http://www.ezgear.com/PS3/BoxFront.jpg) Is that a PS button? I'm not sure.

I'm skeptical about it, but I'm also quite tempted to pick this up. I'd love to play the first two Guitar Heroes on my PS3 (and Rocks the '80s wouldn't be so bad either). If it doesn't work, I'm sure they've got a return policy.

It's a tempting purchase for me also. I wrote to the company at info@ezgear.com, and received a reply fairly quickly:

"I'm curious about the ezJam S10 Wired Guitar Controller for PS3.

Can you confirm that this guitar works for the previous Guitar Hero games (Guitar Hero 1 and 2) and for Guitar Hero 3 - all on the Playstation 3?

Thank you"

"Yes it works for all three Guitar hero games.

So, hmm. I find that incredibly hard to believe. But, it might be true.

I wonder if Harmonix could possibly release a patch for this particular guitar to work increasing it's sales and sticking it to Activision in the process.

It doesnt say it works with Rock Band. It says the small frets are for children and women with small hands.

Would be great if this was compatable now or 'patchable' for the Rock Band team. Curious to see if there is an official response on this one.

Those "small frets for women and children" could quite easily turn into solo frets, and no that is not a PS button. But if it is wired, why would you need a PS button...

I got a reply back from them on it as well. See below for the e-mail chain - looks like a Rock Band version is 'in the works'. We shall see...

They are not compatible at this time. We are working on a Rock band version that should work on both. We hope to have that available in January.

I saw this guitar on your website and was wondering if it will work with Rock Band for the PS3. Do you know if they are compatible?

Thanks, Jason

If some one picks this up, please try out the GH1/2/80's on something more difficult than medium. I'd totally buy two of these things if they work, Rock Band support or not.

Has anyone confirmed whether this thing:
a) works with ALL GH titles?
b) does or does not work with RB?

Has anyone confirmed whether this thing:
a) works with ALL GH titles?
b) does or does not work with RB?

OK, I can answer my own question. I got this from my wife for Christmas but I was skeptical from the beginning that it would work with ALL GH titles on the PS3 as it implies. How could that possibly be, when the game maker can't get it to work? So I was hoping to get an answer before unpacking it to make returning it easier. Oh well, I guess I am the guinea pig.

So, as I suspected, it does NOT work with GH1 or GH2 on the PS3. Did not bother to test with the PS2 since I don't have any interest in using it for the PS2 - was hoping it would work on PS3 so I could get rid of the PS2 - keeping it around only for the old GH games.

It does work (kind of) with GH3 on the PS3. I say kind of because it worked for the first half of one song, then quit working until I jiggled the connection. I suspect it is a loose connection. Overall the whole guitar feels cheap and seems likely to break easily. For instance, the pegs holding the strap on are very loose and rattle loudly when the guitar is used. Also strange is that the guitar is wired, but has an enclosure for 4 AA batteries - but when you open up the enclosure there are no connectors for the batteries - just a battery compartment with the diagram showing the direction the batteries should be inserted. So I guess this is a hasty release from a previously wireless model?

I did try it of course with RB - and predictably it does not work. At least they made no claims that it would, so I don't feel too bad about that. But the box states that it is a PS3 guitar that works with all three GH titles. OK, maybe what they really mean it works with the 3 games on whichever platform the game came out on, but that's not what it implies - so it is misleading, whether intentionally or not I leave for you to decide.

I think the CEO's response to frostymug is similarly misleading. frostymug asked "Can you confirm that this guitar works for the previous Guitar Hero games (Guitar Hero 1 and 2) and for Guitar Hero 3 - all on the Playstation 3?" and the CEO response was "Yes it works on all three games." Well, yes, but that wasn't the question - the question was does it work on all three games ON THE PS3? The answer is no.

Turning back to RB (since this is a RB forum), given this experience I don't think I'll be buying any future guitars from this company even if they claim it works with RB. Back to wating patiently for the patch or individual instrument release. Sigh.

So, as I suspected, it does NOT work with GH1 or GH2 on the PS3.

I was looking into this guitar again, and I hoped someone had tried it out in the meantime. I'm glad you were able to test it, but it's a bummer it doesn't work for GH1 or GH2 on the PS3. I'm irked since that's exactly what I asked the company, and their reply seems like it was intentionally misleading.

Well, thanks for acting as the guinea pig. At least it works for GH3!

Perhaps you missed the two posts (in this same thread) just 2 and 6 above yours where two different people, including the President of the company who makes this thing, already stated that it does NOT work with Rock Band?

You might want to cancel your order...

LOOK! It says right on the product page:
"Note: This is a Guitar Hero Product only. Does not work with Rock Band."
