Just always in your description, credit the artist and record company and your videos should be safe.

wow, even at the bottom of the pile someone responded. thanks, working on a complete overhaul of FOFIX to make it essentially Frets on Fire: Coldplay. so far looking great, just need time to chart songs, it takes a while.

doing the whole "rights belong to..." etc. thing doesn't work.

on my RugratsTV YouTube channel videos are still being flagged down and stuff.

^Lol, wut?:p

I have a channel on youtube for guitar covers and I always try to credit the artist and record company and I've never had a problem with copyright issues or getting my video taken down.

There's hundreds, maybe thousands of people that do guitar covers on youtube and I've never seen any of them taken down for copyright infringement. I think I'm pretty safe.

well it's a COVER. i didn't realiize that before. but if you have tthe actual song overlapping, it will get taken down in time.

I usually have the the song playing behind my guitar, but that's how most people do it. Or they do the audio-swap thing.

i've noticed that if you don't put the song file IN the video, but rather play it in the background of your video, it's less likely to be taken down.

i made a Counter-Strike video and within 5 minutes of being uploaded, there was a copyright claim by WMG.

Yeah, the song file is not in my videos, it's just playing in the background in my video, if that makes sense. Here's and example of my cover of Mudvayne's "Shadow Of a Man":
