How do I disable the screen effect when hitting the bass pedal. It gives me motion sickness. (The drum note path gets wider or bolder.) It is not as bad as guitar hero, which I returned to the store the same day, but it is ruining the game for me.

You don't disable it. And this is the first I've ever heard of that happening.

Also, how do you return a video game after opening?

Take a antihistamine for game motion sickness. It's what I have to do if I play a game w/ a lot of movement. Lucky w/ RB I am ok but games like Halo or Killzone, 3 min I'm ready to puke!

It is actually worse when you collect all the white power up notes, or hit the green note to activate. I am trying to miss at least one white note each time. It seems that there is another way to power up though, but I don't know what it is.

Some smaller game stores let you return opened games in the first 7 days.

You inform them that the game doesnt work on your system. Most places make you get the same game again or you can get store credit.

I just tested this on a second tv in 1080i mode, and it is not my tv.
I have tried it as just drums, and drums and vocals with the same results.

The screen appears to get bigger (it is just the drum track), then it goes back to normal very quickly.

I hope Harmonix doesn't steal any more bad ideas from Guitar Hero.
Anything that distracts you from being in the music is bad. This is very distracting. I am extremely disappointed. Rockband was my favorite game and The Beatles are my favorite band.

I know what you're talking about, but the drum track has always done that in Rock Band. I haven't been able to play The Beatles yet, but I guess the only thing I can figure is the colour pallete just makes it seem to jump more.

Wow, I have no idea what the OP is complaining about. The bass pedal visual effect is very minor in TB:RB compared to the violent up-down in regular Rock Band 2. I was actually disappointed that they had made the visual bass bump LESS noticeable in The Beatles.

In GH5 there is no visual bass bump whatsoever and it drives me nuts.

I think you're out of luck as far as changing it. I've never known of a way to do so with RB1 and 2 so I don't know why that would start now. It also looked less "jumpy" than in RB2.

I guess it doesn't bother me because I don't look at that area while playing, I look about half-way up the chart so I can catch the beat changes early.

I have some Dramamine. Would you like it?

After reading the comments to my original post please let me clarify.

I am not a hater. I bought Rockband 1 on the ps2 and loved it so much I bought an xbox 360 and Rockband 2 so I could buy DLC, and I have purchased a lot. By the way, I liked the ps2 interface the best. I just want to "play" the music.

I really was immediately sickened by The Beatles Rockband. I am not trying to quibble about user interface details. I went back and played some rock band 2 and it does not bother me.

My guess is that the movement of the silver/white outline of the drum track is much more noticeable than the RB2 darker color scheme. Also the bass pedal indicator is a yellow effect that shoots in at the same time amplifying the effect.

In my opionion the power up effects are much bolder than rockband 2. It seems like there are three yellow lines between each drum note and it seemed more like one before.

The Guitar hero effect that killed me was a shift of the drum track when I missed a note after getting several right in a row.

My opinion is make all visual and audio effects configurable. I would turn off everything except the music and the most basic indicator of what notes to hit. The screen is busy enough with the basic notes and lyrics. Everything else is just distracting to me at best. And I want to listen to the music, not a beep when I get a star...

An advanced configuration menu would not be tough to do. I'm sure tons of us would be happy to test the next release for free, I know I would. And yes, I would still pay for the final product, as long as it doesn't make me sick.

I guess I'll sing The Beatles, and play the drums the rest of the time.

Keep the DLC coming!

Um, I'm not sure if it'd help, but theres always the 'Performance Mode' option which would take off the HUD entirely...
Course, I suspect you'd have to know the song charts inside out to pull it off, but it could help. And you'd look super wicked awesome cool doing it!

Erm, in England you excise your right to return any item for any reason whithin 10 days, this is law and every retailer must operate this policy.

Am I the only one this bothers?

I noticed this also. It doesn't really bother me as I'll likely adapt but it is different. I'm too busy squinting to distinguish colors. :)

I haven't played tb:rb all week. With PearlJam on Sunday I think I won't be back soon.

I think so. :)

I actually find it weird playing drums in GH5, which does not have that effect, because I'm so used to it.

I never noticed this effect in RB2. I thought it was new in Beatles. It's definitely more noticeable. The drum track "squishes" a bit when you hit a bass note. Surprised to hear it would make somebody sick (and that the rest of the game doesn't?) but it was a bit distracting until I got used to it
