View Full Version : Good question for Rock Band 2

So in order to keep the trend of the "standards" of this industry, is it safe to assume that Rock Band 2 will be compatible with Guitar Hero controllers for xbox 360 but not for PS3? Not only would we get the shaft from Sony and HMX on this game, but also for games to come in the future! Just something for all of you who are sticking with this genre that is dragging customers through the mud as they fight amongst themselves.

Does that matter all that much?

Theoretically, lets say Rock Band 2 comes out the same time next year. Odds are they'll offer it in a bundle and stand alone, but the instruments from Rock Band 1 should be compatible with Rock Band 2.

Yeah it sucks that PS3 won't have a total variety hypothetically excluding GH3, and GH4 guitars but there should be some 3rd party guitars by the time Rock Band 2 rolls around, if it rolls around.

Well, at this point, I'm expecting Activision to add another button to the guitar with GH4 so that none of the old guitars will be compatible and you'll have to buy theirs again.

You might think it would be a sixth fret, but that wouldn't really enhance the gameplay experience. My money is on a button to allow you to do tricks while riding your skateboard...

Hopefully by RB2 we will have other 3rd party periphs to choose from other then Activisions LP.Maybe EA/HMX will release a better or different version of the fender.

Why would you want to give your money to activision any way? They are not in this for the good of the consumer as you can see. They would rather make the consumer pay more. They want to make you choose either GH or RB, at least thats how I see it.

I'm fairly confident there won't be a Rock Band 2, just additions to Rock Band.

As technology gets better, people aren't going to want to look at the same graphics. They'll want more, as well as better response, new features, etc. etc. To an extent, yes, they should keep expanding on the current game and working on getting high quality peripherals out and standard issue, but after a while, we're going to need to see an overhaul of the game. For example, lets say people said, "No, don't make Halo 2, just expand on Halo!" We'd have a crapload of Halo maps to buy, but still inferior graphics and features and no online play that don't take advantage of new tech. I'm not bashing you, but understand that eventually, they will HAVE to come out with a new game to make any money.

If there is a Rock Band 2, it would have to act in a completely backwards compatible way - as in, it would simply have to come with support for all downloaded tracks from Rock Band. If the only way to port the original disc soundtrack was by offering it as DLC, so be it. But this is how they've pitched it - as a persistent platform for collecting playable music.

If they didn't, it would be like iTunes releasing a new version that just changes the interface and some features, and Apple was like "By the way, you need to buy all the songs you've gotten through the store again."

This idea that you just have to re-buy your music every decade or so as it's put out on brand new formats can't be allowed to continue now that we're dealing with information on hard drives.

Starcraft anyone people have been playing that for the past 10 years same graphics same gameplay yes map editor provides Some changes but the majority of people still play the original game

I'd rather they add some sort of verification setup where if you can prove you have the original, they become available to play in the sequel. That's best-case-scenario though, I know, but I'd rather not have to pay to have access to them all over again. At least, some sort of discount for owners of the original.

That said, this isn't like new shooters where you can't play on old levels anymore. This is music, and it really sucks when some of the great tracks you have end up being unplayable on the newer games with the newer features (like online multiplayer).

There will have to be a Rock Band 2, look at the graphics of the X Box/PS2 when they first came out to what they were before the next gens. came out ,but it better not be out until the end of the PS3/360 or the start of PS4/(whatever the hell they want to call the next X Box). I think that would suck to buy a $60 game with about 50 to 60 songs on it, and only 10 or 15 songs that i actually want to play. So for $5.50 for 3 songs, that comes out to about 33 songs for $60. 33 Songs that I know I'll LOVE, sounds good to me.

If there is a RB 2 it will be in 2-3 yrs.

I guess I'm just wierd.

I play the hell out of RB, I love it to death. I've bought every DLC and will probably buy every DLC that comes out.

BUT I can't wait until RB 2 comes out. Mostly because I'm going on the following assumptions:

1) Devs will make the interface better. The interface is good, but there are certain things that can be done better. So the "shell" of the game will be improved.

2) 50 (or more) new songs at once! Yay!

3) Graphics, not a big concern. Realizing that the in game "money" becomes pointless in about four days? Huge. RB2 (my assumption is) will re-work cash and have at least twice as much STUFF to buy.

4) NEW FEATURES. Every "sequel" has a new "it" feature. Will it be a new instrument? More people in your band? Expanded "roleplaying" style game modes? Whatever it is... I'm sure it won't SUCK like "Boss battles"

5) Expanded online play. RB did for music games what Halo 2 did for shooters. I'm expecting RB2 to have the equivalent in multiplayer functionality to Halo 3. I'm not going to do a "wish list" but.. we can all think of a dozen things that would be "cool" to be able to do online.

6) Okay.. one "wish list" type thing.. but only because I bet that this is what RB2 will be: Massively Multiplayer Online Band Gaming Experience. Persistent world with charts, band listings, classifieds, trades, gigs, cities, battle of the bands etc.

Maybe I just have an active imagination.. but OBVIOUSLY so do the guys/gals at HMX.

I was HAPPY with Guitar Hero. UNTIL I played Rockband. Now... guitar hero is like atari to me.

I'm sure that I think RB is the best social game ever.. .... ... UNTIL RB2 comes out and I won't care about RB anymore.

I think people are looking at this game the wrong way. With Guitar hero it was ALL about the songs. You either played it to play the songs cause you like songs or you played it to get the highzor uber top of the world score wOoT!

Rock band is something else. It's not just a button mashing rythym game.. the potential for depth is amazing and I'm sure that RB1 has a long life ahead of it. RB2 is inevitable.. and I'm willing to bet it'll change the way we play these types of games (and the reasons we play them, perse`) the same way RB1 did.
