View Full Version : Highway stuttering

I see people complaining about the colors, which I have to say haven't bothered me yet, but the thing that's really bothering me is every 10 seconds or so, the highway stutters (on the 360). It's a very small bit really, but nothing like Ive ever seen in rb or GH... maybe a little in the GH series on PS2.

It's very distracting and makes me think they paid just a little too much attention to the 'art' of the game and sacrificed playability.

I did think the title sequence was beautiful though - and I'm not even what you could really call a beatles fan.

I am playing on 360 and I dont have this problem.

Check your calibration if you are playing on a hd tv.

I had this problem as well. Had to turn off True Motion on my LG. Same thing happened with GH5.

OK thanks. I'll try turning off the similar thing on my Samsung.

I did think that it might be a sync problem where it's not so much stuttering as being slightly out of sync - like audio 'beating'.

Let me know if that works. I'm seeing the same problem and have a Sammy as well.

I have a Samsung and I didn't have that problem....just calibrate and you should be golden.

One of my friends has that problem with both RB2 and TB:RB!
The thing that annoys me most is, he doesn't notice it - but it drives me absolutely crazy! He has calibrated his tv many times (at my request) but it still stutters...
Ugh.

I have had the same problem some on my 360 with a Samsung 52" LCD. Thought it might be a performance issue on the 360 side so i installed the game to HD to see if that helps, but nope (though it does make load times awesome). It does not prevent me from enjoying the game but it can be a little annoying. Going to try some tweaks tonight, if anyone else figures out something that got rid of it for them, please share.

I really don't think it has anything to do with calibration. That's the timing between when the game thinks you're supposed to press the notes and when the TV (and audio) actually show/play the notes.

This is a visual problem where the note highway stutters and hesitates in miniscule steps.

I had the same problem on with my Panasonic 42" plasma. Had to turn of Intelligent Frame Creation or something...meaning the same as LGs True Motion.

I have a samsung and it is doing the same thing. Anyone find a fix yet?

I will try it later, but the setting should be the 'e.mode' option. Set to 'Game' or 'OFF' should do it. I'll post what I find out when I do get home to try it.

It's an HDTV issue. I have a Sony, and like most newer sonys we have to turn off "Cinema Motion" or some such setting. Just go through your TV settings under video and find out whatever gimmicky thing your manufacturer is calling it and turn it off.

I have a 52" samsung lcd and fixed the problem by changing the e.mode (via the remote) to game. Hope this helps.

yeah I just came on here to find out if there's a fix

I have a Samsung 46" 120hz 1080p tv and it's doing this

I'll change the settings on the TV now, see if that works

The best buy demo did some freaky things like that with me but the game's been good. Though I thought it was gonna crash at one point while in my first play through. I don't recall which song but it froze and flashed a couple times like ti was going to drop out to the dashboard or something but then ended up resuming and never has recurred. (though I simply may not have played that song again yet...)

hmm some people here with Samsungs recommended changing the e.mode to "Game"

I don't have that option on my Samsung. Any other recommendation? I don't see "e.mode"

I turned off motion plus, nothing. Same thing happening :(

e.mode set to game for me worked as well.

xmrgonex, i'm not sure where you're looking but e.mode is a button on the remote not an option in the menu, hth.

If you don't have an e.mode, do you have a p.mode? My other samsung lcd has that instead (its a little older model then my 52"). This is an actual button on the remote, not something in the setup/video menus.

The demo set up in my local Best Buy did this as well.

Yeah, I changed e.mode to game and it cleared up the problem. Although I realized that some portion (but not all) of what I thought was the stuttering was actually the kick-pedal effect that bounces the highway.

I wish it didn't to that, but at least now I understand it.

The motion plus setting is probably what it refers to, but if I remember right, there used to be discussion about how well it worked on some models of set. Is it older than about a year old? I have the 52 650 series. If you have a lower/older series, I think I recall that there might have been issues with it. avsforum is a good place to research it.

I have the same problem (wii) only when the drummer activates Beatlemania. It only happens to the drummer.

Happens to me as well, PS3 version playing drums only. PS3 is hooked up to a Sanyo Z4 projector and audio to a TD20 drum kit brain. Part of the game I guess.

I'm getting the exact same issue - the note highway seems jittery at times. I'm running on a three-month-old 52" Samsung 240 hz TV. At this point, it seems like there are some issues with some Samsung and Sony TV's, but it is only limited to certain models.

I'm certain that it is a problem limited to this game. Rock Band 1 and 2 look find on the TV, but I'm getting the jitters on TB:RB. Many people have suggested changing the TV to 720p, but it is really annoying to turn down the quality settings on the TV in order to get the game to run smoothly.

By all means, if you have an option to set the display resolution on your TV by remote and that fixes the issue, do it. This game only outputs 720p and 480p resolution. So setting your tv to 720 will make absolutely zero difference to what you see.

If your TV doesn't allow your to control (or at least easily control) your display resolution, you might wish to try setting your console to only output to 720p. Very few games actually run at native 1080p signal anyhow, and once again, you're not hurting the visual quality of anything less than native 1080p by running it at lower resolutions anyhow.

I also have a Samsung and experienced the same problem.
Thanks to someones sugestion I found that E.Mode button on my remote and set it on GAME mode which fixes the stuttering and gives me a nice solid 60FPS.
Thanks again guys!!!

does anyone know what the default e.mode setting is?

i hit it a few times to switch it to GAME but I can't remember what the default was in case I wanna switch back...

jimdibb
09-12-2009, 07:35 PM
There is no 'default'. There's Game, Cinema, Sports, Off.

Pick the one that works for what you're watching.

BTW, I put e.mode function on the 'E' button on my harmony. Don't have to go through even the pages of menu buttons to get to it. Makes it trivial to switch modes as desired.

Just be sure you re-calibrate after turning off auto-motion plus or whatever else. Those things will add lag to the video, and you may find you have to turn the offsets down.
