Anyone else excited about this? I'm more excited that I don't have to spend an arm and a leg getting the original PSX release on ebay than the actual game I think :p

Do they have any plans to re-release Persona 2 on the PSP? If so, I'll wait to play the copies of P3 and P4 sitting in a box in my closet that I have yet to break the seal on. Although from what I understand, they don't need to be played in order.

Not sure, but I really hope so.

You don't have to play P1 or P2 to understand P3 or P4, but P1 and P2 are somewhat connected so you may to play P1 before playing P2. There is a minor reference to P2 in P3 but it's nothing big.

Persona is, in my opinion, Atlus Japan's third best series (The first being the main Shin Megami Tensei series and the second being Digital Devil Saga). It's turn based battle system rpg, where the characters invoke Persona's to cast spells, use special attacks, etc. The Persona's are all based on demons from the games in Atlus' other series. P3 and P4 feature a ground-breaking (or f*cking annoying if you're me) social link system, which is basically a dating/socializing sim. You have to build your relationships with people in order to fuse stronger Persona to use in battle. The first two Persona's don't have this social link system but as I haven't played them, I don't know much else. The stories are usually pretty good, despite all the damn social link garbage.

Does this add in a dating sim part so that it'll actually sell well?

No, thankfully. It will sell due to the Persona name though, and then all these goobers who play it strictly for the dating sim will see that it doesn't need the dating sim part of it at all.

But didn't the Persona "name" come about because of the dating sim aspect? Meaning it will be expected that any Persona title will have it?

I mean no disrespect to the series as I haven't played it, but from what I gather Persona only became really popular because of the dating sim aspect.

Which is what I was saying. People will expect to have the lame ass dating sim and when it doesn't, they'll be pissed for a bit and then realize it's a better game without it.

Persona seems to be reaching record highs of popularity. Releasing a PSP version just makes sense.

I'd prefer the fourth SMT game myself. SMT: Nocturne is still my favorite of the entire franchise.

No plans for a PSP release of Persona 2 yet, but they've announced that they are doing a PSP release of Persona 3.

...no, I don't understand it either.

I was excited... until I saw Giantbomb's quick look.

Now I will not buy it.

I swear I saw a quick look on there, but it's not there.

I'll look further in a minute.
