I eventually received my Rock Band bundle from Gamestop this morning (preordered middle of October) after several emails - and I was hoping that my long wait would at least mean that I should get a bundle from the new (= less likely to pass out) production lines. However, the bundle's sticker says October 15th - and I'm assuming it's one of the first bunch then. Anyone know?
(It's working fine so far, but that's only five songs into the game, and my worries are grounded on the fact that I'm in Europe and - as I understand it - won't be covered by EA's warranty.)

My first bundle to arrive to Australia was dated 13th October, and the second the 22nd October. Funnily enough, the first seems to have better hardware than the second, at least as far as the drums goes. Two of the drums on my second set are a bit too sensitive, and tend to register two beats at a time every now and then. Basically, your mileage may vary.
As far as the guitars go, I've not tried them much, admittedly. Kinda had my fill of playing the guitar with the Guitar Hero series, but I'll get into them eventually. Both seem fine thus far, even though I'm terribly worried about them strum bars going (which might be contributing to my not playing em all that much). Yes, what I'd give for that PS3 compatibility patch, damn you Activision.

I have a first run bundle and it works perfectly, after hundreds upon hundreds of hours of use.
The vast majority work fine, it's just that the minority complains.
You aren't going to see a thousand threads title "WTF all my stuff works perfect!!!!"

I can't find a date code on the main box that everything came in but on the brown box the guitar came in, there is a little sticker that looks like a date code but its not that easy to read. Is that what everybody is talking about?

October 15th, here. No issues. I really don't believe earlier dates mean much. It's just luck of the draw if you happen to get a defective piece, like pretty much anything mass-produced in a hurry. If they change the internal workings again, then the dates might matter.

Not to sound like a company apologist or anything... but the dates don't matter right now. Unless you happen to be one of the people with defective equipment.
HMX can research a million better ways to make the guitar/drums... but unless it changes anything in the game play it won't matter to the majority of people.
My stuff works. I don't care if they come up with a stronger kick pedal or better schematic for the guitar... UNLESS my stuff breaks.
I feel bad for the people with broken equipment... I know if my stuff breaks I'll be upset as hell because I love playing this game.
The point I'm trying to make is.. this is all a bit "Chicken Little". The sky is NOT falling. There are "some" people with messed up equipment. MOST people don't have messed up equipment.
You want an example of the sky REALLY falling... get yourself a copy of Windows Vista. Every SINGLE copy of windows vista is busted. GRrr. Now I just made myself angry even thinking about it.

On the flip side, it's worth noting that there will also be those who will have problems with their gear but do not complain.
I'm not saying the majority have issues, I'm sure that's not the case atall, but not everyone who has a problem with their hardware creates a thread and goes on a rant about it.
The problems I've had with my drum sets, for example, I've generally kept quiet about, and I'm sure there are many others who have just 'put up' with some of the issues without having really drawn attention to them.
For what it's worth, when you're buying from overseas you really are taking a chance. That's partly why I bought two bundles. Here's hoping your gear turns out alright.
