Hi everyone,

I need the community's help for a minute.
I have a copy of Rock Band, which I pre-ordered. The problem is the game is in San Diego, and I live Israel (I'm impatient, and didn't want to wait for the European release... :D)
Shipping the box over here is WAAY expensive because of its size, but I have a friend who's coming here in a week and we may be able to bring them here, but we need to take them out of the box, and put them in a suitcase...

SO.... what I need from you guys is this: can someone please be kind enough to tell me exactly how many pieces are in the box and the measurements (height X width X depth) of each one. And I kinda need these ASAP....

I really appreciate it, thanks!

Okay, bearing in mind that mine is assembled, I'll give you some decent estimates (PS3 equipment, not that it should matter):

Drum pad assembly - 29" width x 10" height x 14" depth
Drum leg tubes - approx. 24" long
Drum base - 25" x 19" x 5"
Drum pedal - 15" x 5" x 5"

Guitar (assembled) - 33" length x 10" width x 2" depth
Guitar (disassembled) - maximum length 16" with neck unscrewed from body and no headstock

Microphone is trivially small.

Hope that helps.

Okay, to follow on.

Eyeballing the parts I'd say that after allowing for a good amount of wrapping and protection, it's still going to take up the best part of a medium to large sized suitcase by itself. You'll be able to pad around it with clothing and other soft stuff.

I'd be very reluctant to do this myself though. Baggage handlers don't exactly take great care of your goodies. If you're committed to doing this I'd seriously advise you to wrap everything extremely well with large bubble wrap and then pad out your suitcase tightly with clothes and towels.

Thanks man!

I appreciate it. Looks like it ain't gonna work out, as there's just not enough room for it...
Looks like I'll have to wait for the european release after all...

....so why instead of spending another 170 dollars do you just not spend an extra few to ship it over? Or did you not actually BUY the game in San Diego, and in that case, you don't have a game anymore because they sell pre-orders after 2 days =]

Cause those "extra few" dollars are, in actuallity, 500 dollars. 560, to be exact...

Looking at the set, I would think that it would be possible to take all of the RB stuff over in ONE extra bag.

Microphone - Small, can fit in your pocket

Game itself - small, can fit in a back pocket

The Strat guitar - With the headstock removed, almost exactly the same size as a guitar hero controller (actually a little shorter, and thinner). This would easily be fit in most clothing bags

The drums - The only part of the drums that are large are the pads themselves. End-to end they are almost as long as the strat with a roughly 1ft x 1ft height and depth. The other pieces (kick pedal, 6 aluminum tubes, sticks and plastic feet) can be crammed into nooks and crannies (or into a back-pack).

It is possible, but would require come creative packing. You could do it with one extra checked bag if you were able to pack the guitar with your clothes.

Thanks guys, I appreciate the help.

My friend's already taking 2 suitcases with him, and that's the maximum...

The countdown to March 6th, has begun...

Can't you pay the airline to add an extra checked box? I think that works out to be cheaper than actually using a shipping company.

I shipped my Rock Band kit in the original packaging from NY to CA and it wasn't damaged. It was thoroughly checked by security, though -- every single piece of sub-packaging inside the box was opened and sealed shut with "Inspected by Homeland Security" tape! I bet the baggage guys just had a PS3 in the back and played it for a while :-)
