It was during the "Year 3000" segment they do. The joke went like this.

"The Beatles: Rock Band will sell millions until it is broken up by the game Yoko Ono: Rock Band."

I know that when I say this, I may be stepping on pins and needles, but I don't like all these people slagging her for breaking up the Beatles.

Don't blame it on Yokey.

Maybe she did broke up the Beatles, but when she met and married John, she gave him inspiration for songs like I Want You (She's So Heavy), and others songs like maybe... Revolution 9.

He did a joke in the monologue last night about the game too:
Today the new Beatles Rock Band game came out. In a recent interview, Paul McCartney admitted he hasn't played the game yet. When asked why, he said he couldn't find it under the piles of money.

Also, Dhani Harrison was on the show a few nights back. Video's on Hulu.

Why can't this song or any other song from Barenaked Ladies be released on Rock Band as DLC. Hanukkah Blessings us not enough.

Does this mean the basement tapes from the Two Virgins recording session will finally be released as DLC?!

She's just the female scapegoat everyone jealously lashes out at, despite there being a bajillion reasons the Beatles broke up.

If by bajillion, you mean John.

Really though, there is some great material. Also I don't think many people saw that that post was the lyrics to a song (Be My Yoko Ono )

There was more to it than John....Harrison may have been the most frustrated as his talent was being underused.

It's generally a pretty amazing thing to get four guys together that just gel like these four did. At the same time, all the pressures they went through and the fact that they all had great ideas that clashed - it was inevitable they'd not last too awful long. Towards the end, Let it Be may have been the straw to break the camel's back...Paul pushed the idea and nobody was thrilled about it - which shows in the documentary (like when George quits for a few days). I think Ringo got pissed and quit at one point during the band's history as well.

But yeah - ultimately it comes down to Paul v. John. They were definitely the two "geniuses" and definitely drifted apart. The guys had been together since being teenagers and went through marriages, births of children - lots of major life changes and decisions. People get tired of each other....it happens.

Actually, There was a time when Yoko and John split up and he was living in L.A. and they were talking about getting the band back together until John went back to Yoko and she told him not to. She said "you don't need them."
he obviusly listened.

Yeah she was a real ball buster :D I've read a lot about her. I just think the split would've happened no matter what. She didn't have a problem with George playing on Imagine or with John pitching in on Ringo's stuff, etc.....I think the main thing was Paul/John. And also George/Ringo wanting to branch out a bit. And yeah...Yoko was pretty controlling too.

And when Lorne Michaels offered money for the Beatles to reunite, Paul and John were actually supposedly hanging out at John's apartment (they had sort of started talking again and were letting old wounds heal) and almost went down there and jammed on live TV. Then just decided "nah". Of course it resulted in great comedy when George showed up to play and Lorne offered him a fourth of what he was going to pay the whole band.

She didn't! In the Rolling STone article, I take it that Allen Klein broke them up after he lied to John to get on his good side! Its not Yoko's fault!

That was a part of it as well...which was the result of a much bigger event - the death of their manager Brian Epstein. I've seen Lennon quoted on this topic as saying it was the beginning of the end (I think he died in 1966).

There were so many factors in play, it's really unfair to blame one person (even Yoko). They had all started to work on outside projects, they had quit touring (and Paul was pushing to pick this back up again). They fought over Epstein's replacement (eventually hiring two people). Harrison emerged as a brilliant songwriter. Ringo started developing film ideas. Ringo quit during the White Album sessions. George quit during Let it Be. Lennon quit (for good) in '69. The Paul announced he was leaving in '70 when he released his solo album.....

Anyway...point being....the breakup was probably about 4 years in the making, and while Ono may be seen as a "tipping point" in the process, she's not fully to blame - nor are any one of the band members on an individual basis.

I can accept a light joke about Yoko, but hardcore opinions that she broke up the Beatles irk me.

I was looking through old threads when this one reminded me of something. Does anyone here watch "Attack of the Show" on G4? They had skit of which Yoko (played by Olivia) was breaking up the Beatles through TB:RB. John is played by Kevin. Here's a link:

It's all in good fun. :p (As a side note, read the achievements that are unlocked.)
