Personally, I'm not a fan of that tracklist either. However, there are better and classier ways to approach criticizing a list like this.
Keep in mind that music is a very personal thing to people.
This tracklist is WAY too modern-centric and, to me, would only serve to highlight what a bad state music is currently in. While I do like some Linkin Park songs, such as Papercut and In The End, I firmly believe that they do not belong in a game like this.
The rest of the tracklist, while TECHNICALLY qualifying as rock stars (although in some cases only in the most liberal use of the word) are not my cup of tea and thus I would steer clear of them.
See, that wasn't so difficult, was it?
P.S.: Punkette, your name seems to suggest a punk fan (I could be wrong and maybe you just found it an amusing name) and yet I don't see anything nearly resembling Punk on that list. Where's the Sex Pistols, The Clash, The Ramones, heck I thought even Billy Talent would be on that list going by your name (Although, they're more modern pop-punk which is vastly inferior IMHO)

ok dead is the only song by MCR that is remotely close to "rocking" so id say that one can stay...the list is very modern though....and remember the game has music from the late 60's all the way up to now..not just the past 10 years

07-17-2007, 07:32 AM
don't be emberassed...its a common "mistake" of sorts...its your preferance..but a wider veriety would be good...picking songs from older generations like the 60s 70s 80s and 90s would help...some contemerary things can stay...its just the game is about rock....and rock was bigger back then...

There are no "right" and "wrong" picks in this forum Punkette. You just post a list of what you'd like to see in the game.
Just remember, posting a list here is going to get you some detractors. There's no need to be embarassed, everyone has a different musical taste. It's only natural. Your taste is VERY different from mine (hence the reason for my earlier post) but it's not my list to dictate what goes on there.
Enjoy posting on here and don't worry if people disagree with your post ;)

I will explain my previous post
Imo , those are mcrs worst songs , I prefer mostly stuff off of their 2nd album , in addition to "the sharpest lives" off the 3rd
Limp bizkit I take as a complete joke... he raps for craps sake ..... lol
I don't like metallica
For Godsmack I wouldv'e picked "The enemy"
LP I don't care much for but I would have picked "Place for my head"
A7X and yellowcard is totally cool with me I love those guys
there you go lol
Most importantly , despite what these guys say
Don't be pushed into being obsessed with old music : It's not right

it really doesnt matter how old you are to know "early generation" music...i am only 17 and i know bands and songs dating back to the 60's...my dad was born in the 60's and grew up in the 70's so i know alot of the 60's, 70', 80's, and 90's bands because he tends to listen to that alot...

how can you not like metallica? i mean, i get that everone has different music taste but come on, metallica is what metal is all about...they are the fathers of metal...
I hate to break it to you but Metallica are not what metal is about, are not the prime models of metal, nor are they the father of metal, nor even modern metal.
Metal got it's start as an outgrowth of Rock in the early 1970's. Founding fathers are often cited as Led Zeppelin (I don't necessarily agree with this one), Black Sabbath and AC/DC.
However, in a much more real sense the real founders and fathers of metal are Judas Priest. Judas Priest began in 1974 with Rocka Rolla and continued in 1976 with Sad Wings Of Destiny. Both of these albums, while not exactly what metal would become, were very heavy blues and set the foundations of what would come.
Judas Priest continued into 1977, with Sin After Sin, fine tuning their sound to a much more metal one and started to hit it big. By 1981 Judas Priest had well established themselves and their style of music as the basis of metal with anthems like "Metal Gods", "Breaking The Law", "Living After Midnight", "Hell Bent For Leather", "The Green Manalishi With The Two-Pronged Crown", "Diamonds And Rust", "Sinner", "Dissident Agressor", "Exciter", and "Better By You, Better Than Me" (Which gained notoriety as the song they were sued over for alledgedly inserting backwards messages in to encourage fans to commit suicide). They continued their success throughout the 1980's until 1991, when Rob Halford left the band to pursue his own ambitions.
In comparison, Metallica was just starting in 1981 and were riding the wave of popularity that Judas Priest had brought to metal.
Many music critics and writers credit Judas Priest with single handedly saving the fledgling metal genre (Metal was having many problems gaining popularity outside of a few select groups throughout the 1970's) and ensuring we would have many more years of metal to come.
And now you know the rest of the story ;)

WhoFan i agree Metallica are not the fathers of metal. You can not deny that they are the ones who brought metal out of its funk. When Metallica came out, there was nothing but hair bands. Metallica was one of the original bands to take metal from the glam/hair scene and transform it into what it is today. They are one of the fathers of thrash metal. And even Geezer Butler (Bassist for Black Sabbath) said it, "Thank God For Metallica." He said the three most important bands in metal were Black Sabbath, Judas Priest, and Metallica
I would have some DrangonForce and some Iron Maiden on the list.

I most certainly am not denying their impact on the metal scene. They are definitely one of the top 3 metal acts, in terms of success and influence. The only thing I was debating was the "father of metal" statement made earlier. I would rank the top 3 as so based upon influence:
1) Black Sabbath (Let's face it, they basically created the whole genre of metal and laid the foundations of what was to come)
2) Judas Priest (Built on what was established by Black Sabbath and saved metal as a viable genre in music. Brought metal to the mainstream and had a major influence over the many forms it has since taken on (speed and thrash specifically))
3) Metallica (Rode the wave of success that metal was taking in the early 80's. Later had a huge impact on thrash metal and pulled metal out of the glam/hair problem it faced)
That being said, I'm still not much of a fan of Metallica. However, one does not need to be a fan of a band to recognize and acknowledge the achievements of said band.
For example, I think the Rolling Stones are a bunch of no-talent hacks who have turned into charicatures of themselves in recent years but I most certainly can not deny their impact on Rock. (BTW, the only one with real talent in the Rolling Stones was Brian Jones)

aside from your avatar reminding me of Blade Runner, I agree with Tman in that you should stick up for what you like. People are going to try to diss what you like all the time and you gotta be ready to tell them to get bent. (citing reasons why as well)
I'd also try to expand a little bit so that people dont label you the way they have been. Being labeled sucks, an individual is much more than just what they like... be it music movies books or whatever. It's really fun for me to find new (sometimes old) music that I like. It adds so much, theres so much out there to discover. I'd look into some of the bands that influenced My Chemical Romance, because all these people are talking sh*t because you listed them on your list but in reality, they all love the artists who influenced them.
Awesome call on Rise Against. Definately my favorite punk band.

It'd be nice if they were able to defend themselves, but sadly most of them are blithering idiots. This is a wonderful example. How hard is it to type correctly? I understand a few mistakes here and there, but is it that hard to SPELL? Uh oh too long to type "you", I'll just shorten it to "u" just like some moron texting (On their phone no less) Wow look, the work "really" It's SIX WHOLE LETTERS, JESUS CHRIST WAY TOO LONG. It's just too hard to use periods and commas, but when it comes to exclamation marks (! These things by the way), it's time to go all out and use 50 of them.
I mean, it's nice that these creatures are smart enough to defend the music they listen to (And amazing). Maybe their brains are simply subhuman instead of nonexistant. And no, I don't really think their intelligence has to do with Pop Punk/Emo/Whatever the hell it's called.
I wouldn't actually verbally attack these bands and their fans if the music wasn't clogging up mainstream rock and killing it, it's not just their fault, it's the people that listen to it a lot. It's like adding salt to a wound. I'm sure if the popular music was good these bands would probably be making different and better music.

It'd be nice if they were able to defend themselves, but sadly most of them are blithering idiots. This is a wonderful example. How hard is it to type correctly? MTVs fault man... MTVs fault.... its all they play to their audience
If you were born into a family in which the parents were not into music, and neither were any older siblings it becomes a fact that the only music they ever heard is on the radio or TV, MTV basically dictates what gets played, yet they choose to be 1 trick ponies
So imagine some 12 yr old kid who knows nothing of music , just watching his favorite reality show on MTV , then TRL comes on... and he hears music for the 1st time , MTV music is far better than no music at all , thus they fall in love with nearly if not every song MTV plays because it is the only thing they know.
You get what I'm saying here?

Yeah I do understand. It makes sense, but once the start hearing music they may get accidently exposed to good music. I think most of their parents would listen to music, and these kids think it's "Lame" and they go listen to Panic! at the disco or something ******ed like that. I used to like Green Day, but I grew out of it at 12.
Luckily my parents raised me on good music.
But what confuses me is the way they type. I typed better when I was 12 even though they were basic sentences. These people type horribly, how do they pass school? Typing better on the internet has actually improved my grammar and writing style. It's second nature now.

Meh , I half ass it personally... I type half right half wrong I'm not trying to be grammatically correct really but I do try to spell right and caps where needed and throw in apostrophes here and there
Though I find on the internet I do run on sentences like hell cause I don't wanna think about technical grammar right now lol

hey man, while I cant say I like your setlist, I can see that you thouroughly enjoy your music and I respect that.
What you need to do if you wanna get into some older rock bands, is you gotta listen to stuff that is fairly accessable, the kind of stuff that moves you from one kind of rock to another, the most accessable stuff out there is good old fist pumping rock: you got your ACDC, Van Halen, Aerosmith and such. From there you should start getting into stuff with a more aquired taste, wether its
metal, like: Iron Maiden, Megadeth, Judas Priest. (branches into about 400 different types of metal)
Classic Rock, like: Led Zeppelin, Deep Purple, Pink Floyd etc.
Music is just a big web, everything is connected somehow, and everything started somewhere, I believe rock is the most intricate part of the web, I think the best place to start is just feel good, fist pumping rock. From there sample different artists and figure out what it is that you like.
This is just my theory, and how I started listening to rock, so if you want to elaborate, or point out flaws, feel free :)

You should have posted Duran Duran. Flock of Seagulls had I ran, I didn't really listen much to them. They look better than modern pop punk bands becuase It was funny back than, but today the bands look so dumb it crosses the threshold of sad and funny.
I am not "OWNED LOL" I thought you were tolerant of other peoples taste? I Was critisizing stupidity, and not musical taste. I'll make sure to bring this up when you guys are going after someone who listens to music you don't like. What is wrong with New Wave beyond the silly way they dressed, and the fact that it's like a mix of Glam Rock and Post Punk with some pop. You wouldn't laugh at someone for listening to David Bowie or KISS would you?
And another thing. Not all New Wave bands dressed oddly. Only a few, also heres something out of wikipedia.
Within the United States, the term has since become applied indiscriminately to any band, with attitude, that did not embrace the simplistic, loud-fast playing style, whether that meant that their sound was Disco-inspired, Funk, Reggae, Ska, or Experimental.[citation needed] Thus, The Police, The Records, the B-52s, Blondie, Soft Cell, and The (English) Beat are equally considered New Wave, even though certain keyboard-led bands of the early 1980s, such as Duran Duran and Depeche Mode are considered the most iconic bands of the genre.
I bet I could name 3 new wave bands that dressed normally, for every 1 that dressed odd. It was the 80s too. I'm not saying they were perfect, but do you know how bad the fashions were? Flock of Seagulls are GOOD by 80s standards.
You guys are just defending it because it was being insulted by me. You're encouraging stupidity. If someone respectable like MCR or whatever crap I wouldn't rail on them like this. I'm trying to fight the stupid. It double/triple posts left and right, has horrible grammar, and much more.
Look, I've seen forums where they crack down on idiocy, and the idiots either leave, or become smart. I've seen forums that are nice about it. They're well meaning, but it doesn't work and the idiots keep coming, and they stay stupid.
oh wow now i know
Oh wow what do you know? I didn't know you were capable of "Learning". Modern Pop Punk bands aren't much better than 80s new wave bands. I'd say worse, since New Wave you can laugh at, bands with "emo" fashions are just too sad to laugh at.
Maybe you could learn to not be an idiot? Maybe you just need age a year or so to gain intelligence? Who knows?

Ozzy Osbourne- It gets me through
Black Sabbath- Iron Man
System of a Down- BYOB
Led Zeppelin- Kashmir
Pantera- Cowboys From Hell (unlikely I know but it would be fun to play)
Saliva- Ladies and Gentleman
AC/DC- anything really all their songs rock
Cluch- Eight Times over Miss October
Beatles- anything from them would be cool
The Offspring- Pretty Fly for a White Guy
Van Halen- running with the Devil
Dio- Rainbow in the Dark
Dope- Thanks for nothing/ You spin me round
Sammy Hagar- I can't drive 55
short list but I think they would be a great addition to the game

Gray, first things first. That apology I posted on page 12 was completely snyde and meant to poke fun at the parties insulting me for using internet keying. Secondly you are not better than anyone else for using good grammer in an online forum, this is an expression of our opinnions and thus we can present ourselves however we like. And thirdly, i agree with you people should not double and triple post, theyare idiots. Now moving on. This is a thread for posting our suggestions on inclusions in the game, on most forums a sensible Mod would have deleted this thread long ago because it has strayed so far off course. Let us all be reasonable now and move on, let us discuss what bands and/or songs we hope will be included in this highly anticipated game and crituque each other in a mature and constructive manner.
Thank you for your time......

Hello there, because it is quite obvious that you need superfluosly good grammer to post in this forum and not be flamed I will proceed to sound like quite the Jackass for the rest of the post.
Oh yeah if you can't recognize sarcasm you just wasted your time reading this post and should proceed to watch excessive amounts of The Colbert Report
you're right, now if you kind people tell me what you think of the setlist,PLEASE.

Oops, a little too late to the argument there, aren't we? I knew it was sarcasm, but I was using your sarcasm as a way to make a statement about gramrar. Sometimes sarcasm may not translate well over to the internets too.
Also paragraphs please  Dear god the forum has horrible emoticons.
EDIT: Yeah about that setlist. Few suggestions
Only have 1-2 songs per band.
Maybe only have 1 or 2 token MCR/Pop Punk songs since they're not really well-liked, and a lot of the time easy to play.
More diversity. Try to cover more genres.
Use - to seperate title and artist instead of _. - Looks better.

It is really amusing when you read the first two pages of this thread and then skip to the the 12th. Watching how the discussion digressed into the grammar corrections is priceless.
I also think the overwhelming negative response punkette got on MCR is funny but causes me to wonder why that is. There must be some sociological reason. I would hate to see them in the game but only out of principle. Same as I would hate to see prince in one of these games. Might be catchy tune wise but I couldn't be caught playing it.
Here's my list, don't be to ruff;
Whipping Post, The Allman Brothers
Rough Boy, ZZ Top (loads of fun to sing, nice little riff runs)
Nothing Else Matters, Metallica (easy to sing and I really like it)
Wicked Garden, STP (Actually I would like to see 31/32 of the album in game)
No More Tears, Ozzy Osbourne (I love that latent solo of wylde's)
Rooster, Alice In Chains
Pinball Wizard, The Who
*** On Feel The Noize, Quiet Riot
Everybody Wants You, Billy Squier
Bad Company, Bad Company
Battle Ready, Otep (Would help my find my dream girl)
Lump, President Of The United States of America
Everlong, Foo Fighters
Wild Side, Motley Crue
Shine, Collective Soul (One Word, "Yeah!")
Immigrant Song, Led Zeppelin
Gasoline, Seether
Polyamourus, Breaking Benjamin
Party, Boston
So Far Away, Crossfade
Vitamin R, Chevelle
Outshined, Soundgarden
Dirty Little Thing, Velvet Revolver
Saturday Night Special, Lynyrd Skynyrd
Just Got Paid, ZZ Top (I really like them, back Off)
Foreplay/Longtime, Boston (I know its 7 minutes long but who cares as long as you can do that drum/guitar intro for longtime.
That list is watered down to put it lightly. I suppose I should call it my ultimate setlist that actually stands a chance. I am a metalhead through and through but I just can't imagine trying to sing along to In Flames or even Mudvayne. Darn that microphone implement.

I would say enter the sandman is a could choice because there a lot of people that like it. I would have to say there are many other metallica songs that I find far more appealing but they really have no shot of making it into this game.
Sounds like there are a lot of folks on here that would say; If I can't have the super power I want then I hate you for offering to give me one.
Whats wrong with the immigrant song? I think it would be fun just to sing the intro not to mention the very catchy guitar licks.

yeah, well. people are ****ing morons. its their most popular song, been around for 16 years, are people STILL that much in love with a god awful song? seriously, the song sucks, it has absolutely nothing going for it. lyrics suck, the guitar, bass and drum parts ****ing suck to the 9's and the singing is exceptionally bad. just a terrible song any way you slice it.
also, it isnt "Enter THE Sandman." minus the "the" and you're golden. but still, I need to at least reference the fact that I find you stupid for not knowing the name of the most overplayed song ever created...ever.
how about this? no ****ing Metallica at all if they're going to throw it away for such a bad song? sounds good to me.

Let me mention, like many a people, I have a default disdain for My Chemical Romance. Ever heard of a nu-goth? Yeah well we've basically disowned MCR. Sorry.
BUT the setlist is oddly satisfying. Nothing special but satisfying. Maybe 'cause I'm hyper and just wrote a punk-ish (to me) blog entry. Coincedence is trippy.

dude u just made the point for putting Enter Sandman into the game because it is the most popular song and it's probably gonna end up in one of the opening sets.... just like they put Shout at the Devil in GH2 even though there are way better Motley Crue songs...
they have to market to the masses not the hardcore metal fans because then the game would tank and end up on some Top 20 Worst Games of All-Time list

Agreed.
I don't have any problem with MCR, well, no problem with their music at least, but the vocals and lyrics kill me every time. They'd be a decent rock band if they only did instrumental rock or changed their lyrics to something more rock-ish.
Same with A7X. I like Beast and the Harlot, but that's the only song I like by them.
Ocean Avenue would be OK.
No Likin Park.
Bon Jovi and Metallica are already confirmed.

PEOPLE PEOPLE,please you should understand that i like modern songs and there is'nt any good songs, and everybody has different music tastes for example if you like ac/dc and someone started telling you they're stupid ofcourse you're gonna get mad but telling me this is'nt gonna make me change my mind about what i like and what i do'nt like so no matter what any body says you're still gonna listen to the bands you like and also harmonix is'nt gonna put all these songs in the game some of them might be added to the game and some might not, so both songs that you like and hate will be in the game.
SO GIVE IT A REST, I LIKE THOSE SONGS I'M NOT CHANGING MY SETLIST.

Wow, crazy how everyone immediately trampled the music tastes of a 14 year old girl. Remember what you listened to when you were that age? Are you still proud of it?
Some people are lucky enough to have someone introduce them to "better" music, a lot of people aren't.
Punkette, if you're interested in expanding your musical horizons, listening to older bands is a good start but I wouldn't let these guys shove their tastes down your throat. Everyone's ultimate setlists are beginning to look the same. There's way more out there than just metal from the 70's and 80's, no matter how popular it seems here.
And this is a freakin' internet forum! This place is the very antithesis of proper spelling and grammar. Unless your post is unreadable, I don't see how it matters.

You're kind of right. I grew up on the Beatles and stuff along that lines. I am 14 now, and I'll probably be proud of what I liked, but that's different. I mean, I'm sure her parents probably listened to classic rock, and if not, they definitely didn't listen to this kind of music.
She seems to close her mind to adding anything that isn't modern American Pop Punk/Pop Rock, with a few token other songs thrown in.
Now before you say classic rock fans close their mind to this type of music (If you were going to say that, not sure if you would. Maybe someone else would. Anyway), they've listened to this music, and they don't like it. Frankly, it does have a trashy quality to it. Classic rock fans don't JUST listen to metal from the 70-80s. I'd say they listen to the rock from the mid 60s-80s, with a few modern bands they like. Rock considered classic rock is pretty varied too.

At 14, I listened to Classic Rock and Glam/Hair Metal, along with a large variety of other stuff. Stuff that came out around the time I was born.
I don't personally give people grief for their selections, but I don't necessarily like it either. ;)

I just went to youtube to finally see what all the fuss is about this MCR I keep hearing about. I never hear them on the radio, ( I have Sirius radio and listen mostly to Stern, Hard Attack and 1st Wave) but from what I heard on youtube, they sound okay. I don't care if they're emo or not (In fact, I think it's cool if they are; I love emo) but the thing I didn't like that much about them was the fact that the singer seems to overly pronounce his "R's" which friggin' irritates the crap out of me when singers do that. But their whole style of music is fine. And the lead singer has a cool look about him. Having said all that stuff: Put them in the game!
