I'm just getting into the meat of Expert drums and wow, any advice for handling 16th note double kicks?
I think I hit one once because I managed to find that sweet spot where the pedal's only part way down and it still counts the hit. Otherwise I can't make my damn foot move that fast. I think Nightmare is one of those double kick songs.
Any suggestions?

You just have to practice it.
You probably won't be able to kick, let your foot go back, and kick again.
It's got to be a fluid motion. It will help if you are using the ball of your foot to push, and have your heel up.
If you are using your whole foot, you probably won't ever hit them.

You also don't have to let the pedal come up all the way. Go into practice mode and see how far you have to lift your foot to make it register a kick. Practice that until it's natural for you to rapidly lift your foot the bare minimum.

how much does a drum throne help for these types of kicks? I know having your weight forward helps a lot and a drum throne should get you into better position right?

My brother actually just bought a brand new throne this week and he's going to give me his old one. I'll let you know if it helps me out or not.

It will help a bit. But I find that these notes are harder in this game than on a real drum kit because of the rebound of the pedal and the limited ability to adjust the setup (pedal travel, angle, etc). On a real kit, with a bit of practice, a "double" with your foot, just like a double stroke with your hand, isn't too hard and is used in a lot of songs.
