I've been thinking about how RB will look, and I came up with what I think is a brilliant idea for the song selection.

Okay, so you go into freeplay, and the songs are divided into 5 sections, the 60's, 70's, 80's, 90's, and 2000's, each which have their own unique case for the media storage device eg; the 60's uses records, 80's uses cassette tapes. You select one. It flips to the back of the case in which the record/cassette/etc; is stored in, where it shows the songs like any other cd/whatever case. And from there you pick a song, and I think you know the rest.

Here's a poorly done visualization of what I'm talking about, for those who didn't understand that.:

Do you have a better idea? If so, feel free to post here.

Haha.. the 2000's could be an MP3 player.. and it could zoom in on the screen and show the songs.

But, I think they already have an idea for the menus and song selection.. I like how it looked in the GameSpot video.

I thought the menus that were shown in the E3 demo were pretty sexy. I'm not saying your idea is bad or anything, I just think the menus that they showed in the demo were cool.

Not a bad idea, needs some work though.

It would probably go like this:
60s - Records
70s - 8-tracks
80s - Cassettes
90s - CDs
00s - MP3 player

I dunno if there will be enough songs to warrent different menus screens for each era of music... I suppose once the DLC really starts kickin it it could come in handy.

If you look closely at the video of the song selection screen you can see down the bottom right theres a thing that says if you push A (or whatever) on the controller it will change how the songs are categorized. So the whole list being sorted by decade thing isn't the only way they'll be displayed.

Just throwing in my 2 cents that this is a pretty good, creative idea. Fits very well with the whole 'replicate the rock and roll experience' and paying homage to Rock and Roll history and all that. Probably too late for Rock Band, but perhaps in the sequel?
