View Full Version : Better arm positions for Höfner controller?

I'm finding that resting my right forearm against the hard edge of the Höfner is leaving me with a really sore spot. I tried holding my arm further away, but that makes precise strumming more difficult. I've taken to putting a towel between my arm and the plastic so that I have a soft resting spot. Is it just me, or is there a better way to hold this thing so I'm not pressing the edge into my poor flexors?

The Beatles rig is the first Rock Band setup I've owned. I've played at friends' houses with their instruments and didn't notice a soreness problem... but then again I haven't played theirs for nearly as long (they usually let me drum!)

For me, the Hofner's design pushes me to play like a bassist normally would. I put my palm on the top edge and pull up on the strumbar. Putting my wrist on the top and strumming like a guitarist leaves a groove across my wrist.

This actually happened to me with the Grestch as well, my right forearm for the first few days of play after resting on the hard edge of the guitar was scratched up a bit and sore.

But over time I haven't changed anything my arm has just become used to it I think. Trying to change my arm into a different position just made me feel awkward and distracted me while playing.

I find the hoffner can also be a lot more comfortable whn played a little more upright; closer to a 45 degree angle than the 30 I'd usually play at.

Mind you, Paul usually played with a pick which would give him the "groove" too. Maybe this explains why he was such a groovy bassist...

Yeah, I had to get a wrist band to get comfortable. Works a lot better now, though. :)

I dont have this problem..

I only rest my arm on the body of the guitars in between songs I guess...

I was glad to hear that I wasn't the only one having this problem! But I agree..I thought of wristband also and it works perfect!!

Yeah, you're not techincally supposed to rest your arm on the guitar, but most people do.
The wristband is a great idea. i'll suggest that to my friend who's been having issue with it. I personally tended to play the bass picking upwards as well, and only move down when I move to quick strums that need up and down motion. Honestly, holding my hand out further to reach the buttons gave me a bit of a soreness in my arm the first day, but it's understandable since it's like a MILE LONG, lol.

Yeah, I'm used to my acoustic guitar and my acoustic bass, which are both a few inches deeper than the plastic RB jobs. It's like a totally different position. Wristband sounds smart.
